Iberdrola Engineering and Ainia Technological Centre create a revolutionary system of capture of CO2 and crop of microalgas
The new technician developed, presented in Valencia, bases in the capture of the CO2 pertinent of smokes contaminantes and his back utilisation like food in the crops of microalgas, that already have at present multiple applications These investigations are part of the key studies realizar for the project

During the procedure of the capture of CO2.
To the event, celebrated in the installations of Ainia in Valencia, have assisted the director of Innovation of the quoted subsidiary of Iberdrola, Luis Malumbres; the delegate of Iberdrola in the Valencian Community, Julián Bolinches; the director of R&D of Ainia, José García; the director of Follow-up, Systems and Processes of the Ccdti, German Rodriguez, and the boss of the Division of Control of Projects of the Ccdti, José Rivillas.
In the course of the act has carried out a demonstration of the new technician developed, that bases in the capture of the CO2 of smokes contaminantes through a device designed on purpose for this project and the back utilisation of this CO2 purificado to feed crops of microalgas, that already have in the multiple actuality applications. Also it has seen the new system of crop of microalgas developed in the project.

Crops of microalgas.
This project supposes a very important step for the investigation in the field of the microalgas, that are considered in these very notable moments by his energetic use and for containing big variety of compounds of value in the market: proteins, thickeners, vitamins, enzymes, antibiotics, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products or chemical products.
Besides, thanks to this initiative has developed a very advanced system of selective capture of CO2, able to reach purities of until 95%, for what have simulated to scale pilot gases of combustion and have studied different options of capture and concentration of CO2.
The studies showed have realizar entirely in the installations of Ainia in the last three years and suppose the experimental success of the project, that has created the necessary knowledge to make possible his application to the business reality.
These investigations are part of the key studies for the project Zenith Life, an initiative of R&D led by Iberdrola Engineering -with Carlos Padilla like director of the project-, and in which it participates a consortium of 13 companies and 25 organisms of investigation.
Zenith Life, that has the support of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and has been subsidised by Cdti, is a scientific and technological initiative that looks for to create a new concept of Biociudad, Autosuficiente and Sustainable (Biocas), applying to the urban surroundings a new culture of aprovechamiento of the natural resources, of the waste and of the substances contaminantes.
The participation in Zenith Life freamers in the politics of Iberdrola Engineering to carry out his projects with a high degree of innovation. In fact, this subsidiary is, by his technological capacities, one of the engineers of reference in the world-wide energetic sector, with capacity to compete in the international markets.
