Aimplas and Grace Biotech collaborate to promote the r & d on biodegradable plastics

After the agreement, that it has the support of Institute of medium and small industry Valencian (Impiva), Aimplas becomes the technological partner of the multinational, which seeks to settle in the Valencian Community technological based. Grace Biotech aims to encourage the use of plastic biodegradable materials in the European market and with special attention to the domestic market and the Valencian Community, that in Spain there is currently no company dedicated to the production of this type of raw material.
"This agreement is important for the transformation of plastics industry because firms provide access to the raw and the technology of manufacture of this type of material", explains Aimplas said in a statement.
More than 10 years of experience
Grace Biotech Corporation has more than 10 years of experience in the manufacture of biodegradable plastic materials produced from the starch of the maize, which are distributed in Europe, United States, Japan and China. The company provides this type of raw material to obtain final products in applications such as food, bags, agricultural products (pots and sheets for greenhouses), packaging products for fishing and sanitary products, among others.
For its part, Aimplas, according to its managing director, José Antonio Costa, "will provide technical advice and technology to deepen the research equipment and the development of processes for the manufacture of plastic materials based on raw materials of plant origin as the starch".
The production of biodegradable plastics worldwide is expected to reach 800,000 tonnes in 2010, 70% of which will be used for the manufacture of bags and containers.
