Demag IntElect, all-electric performance increase
September 29, 2008
The relationship between Tyco Electronics Steinach and demag plastics group (DPG) of Schwaig is very stable because both companies have been cooperating closely since the start of production in 1986. Currently the Swiss used in their factory 71 machines injection pressure of closing 35 to 150 Tm., including 16 Demag IntElect-series machines. Towards the end of summer, Diego Righetti, director of the factory of Tyco Electronics in Steinach, awaiting the arrival of five machines IntElect. "Is your host on the way to the production with zero defects" that characterizes the machines. "Only in the period of 2006 / 2007 we were able to improve our quality section of molding by injection between 20 and 30 per cent, corresponding to the IntElect machines much of this improvement."
"The machine Demag IntElect continue in the future an important role in our program" explains briefly Heinz Willi Höfemeier, Demag Key Account Manager, on the strategy for the future of the machine manufacturer. "We will consistently expand the series, making it the European platform of machines", summing up the plans. But details will not be announced until the conclusion of the Fakuma fair.
Michel Luzio, head of production of the factory of Tyco Electronics in Steinach.
"IntElect machines consume up to 60 percent less energy than comparable hydraulic machines"
Systematic production
Decisive criteria, Righetti and his Chief of production Luzio praise the high precision in repeatability of the movements of the machine.
The stability of processes increased in a significant way with electric machines, what not in last place contributed to the decision to purchase other five Demag IntElect machines.
Tyco Electronics Logistics AG
Tyco Electronics Logistics AG is a subsidiary of Tyco Electronics Ltd. headquartered in Pembroke, Bermuda and a company which is traded on the NYSE (TEL); BEX: TEL). Tyco Electronics, with annual sales of 13,500 million US dollars, is leader in market and supplier worldwide of electrical components and electronic liabilities for thousands of consumer goods and of equipment, solutions of networks and systems for the telecommunications sector and the energy markets. In addition, Tyco Electronics offers wireless systems for critical applications of security and defense and radar systems.
The beginnings of Tyco Electronics in Switzerland back to the year 1973 with the establishment of a delegation of sales under the name of AMP (Switzerland) AG in Lucerne. In the middle of the 1980s began with the production at the factory in Steinach in the canton of St. Gall, which was doubled ten years later. In the year 2000 Tyco International made the acquisition of AMP. In the same year also acquired the company in Au (Zurich) AG Axicom (today is the factory of Au), as well as the Division of energy of a society in Wohlen (SA) (today is the factory of Wohlen). Finally, Tyco International acquired in the year 2000 also Thomas und Betts and, therefore, in the present factory of Bioggio (TI) Switzerland. In 2006 merged all enamelware factories of Tyco Electronics in Switzerland in Tyco Electronics Logistics AG.
Therefore, under the roof of Tyco Electronics Logistics AG are grouped today four production centres in Switzerland:
• Factory of Steinach - canton St. Gallen
• Factory of Axicom Au - canton Zurich
• Factory of Axicom Wohlen - canton Aargau
• Factory of Bioggio - Canton Ticino
Steinach factory employs 400 people and works in two areas of production, the workshop of injection molding and stamping for the manufacture of contacts workshop. The two production centres working exclusively for the Tyco Electronics program.
Another reason that they both claim is lower energy consumption compared to the hydraulic machines whose bombs are constantly 'under pressure'. "IntElect machines consume up to 60 percent less energy than the hydraulic machines comparable", according to Urs Kocher of the delegation of Demag in Bern 'mapag maschinen AG'. To this is added the lower cost of maintenance because the machine takes less mobile components that require less maintenance.
Trainees from Tyco Electronics following in the footsteps of James Bond
In reward of his good work and to further promote team spirit, 30 Tyco Electronics Logistics AG, Steinach, apprentices were able to move in early April, a week in the sports centre of Tenero in Lake Maggiore. There the company organized from March 31 to April 5 its traditional week of projects. David Garcia, Chief of the training of apprentices of Tyco Electronics workshop and was supported by his substitute Sascha Sottile - trainer at the workshop training - and Monika Kobelt of the Dept. of human resources, had made this year a sporting event with very varied in team sports and individual activities.
In the end Garcia kept a surprise in the agenda for his protégés. The trip took them to the Verzasca Valley to the wall of the dam of 220 meters of the Lake di Vogorno, which achieved worldwide fame with the jump from bungee jumping of James Bond in the film Golden Eye.
Tyco Electronics has been conducting week of projects exclusively for 11 years, initially as sporting event. In the year 2005 was introduced for the first time a camp of projects with social content to convey to young people the importance of the work and commitment for the society. To this end, the company collaborates with different NGOs. Since then, the week of projects is alternatively organized a year as a sporting event, and the next with the Fund's projects.
