abs EVENTS Smart cities and their mobility challenges were the focal point of the ELA (European Lifts Association) conference this year, which took place on 18th April at the Radisson BLU hotel in Rome. Jorge Ligüerre, president of the ELA, welcomed the attendees to the event, which, as he himself mentioned, took place «in a place that has been a ‘smart city’ for millennia and which, in many ways, still is one.» The different thematic blocks of the conference focused on the challenges facing smart cities, but without forgetting issues such as safety, energy efficiency, respect for the environment, or the regulatory framework. After three intense days, with the full programme of conferences that is the identifying feature of the event, along with a parallel exhibition that showcased innovative proposals from various firms, Elevcon 2016 closed at the Hilton hotel in Madrid on 12th May. The innovative contents of the different talks were the most outstanding aspect of the event— highlighted by the participants themselves—although there was some criticism. The participants in the exhibit complained that the whole organisational effort of the event seemed to be placed on the academic contents of the congress organised by the IAEE (International Association of Elevator Engineers) to the detriment of the trade show, which some dismissed as a «mere supplement.» This year Matelec is joining ePower&Building, Ifema’s new project, which brings together all of the solutions for the building cycle. The event, which will welcome over 600 exhibiting companies, will be held from 25th to 28th October, 2016 at the Madrid fairgrounds, in three large areas: Matelec, Matelec Industry and Lightec. The company that organises Interlift, AFAG, is expecting another big step ahead for the leading fair in the lift sector. For this reason, Interlift 2017 will have another temporary fair pavilion besides the Cube, the Pavilion, which will be included by way of a single entrance from pavilion 3. In 2019 the new pavilion 2, which is much bigger, will also be ready. Pavilion 6, which exhibitors will be using for the first time, also forms a part of the increased surface area. About another 1,500m² will be available to exhibitors in 2017. ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones will be organising Spanish participation for the seventh year in a row with an Official Pavilion in The Big 5 2016 fair, which will take place in the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) from 21st to 24th November, 2016. Held from 20th to 23rd April, 2006 and organised by CNR Expo in Istanbul, Eurasia Asansor showed a full panorama of the latest products for the lift and escalator industry to more than 20,000 professional visitors, who were both national (89%) and foreign (11%) . ASSOCIATIONS GEDAC: Organised by the Lift Guild of Catalonia and attended by 132 people, the informational conference in Barcelona focused on the analysis of regulations UNE EN 81-20/50 was held on 26th May, 2016 at the Hotel Fira Congress; the participants included representatives from the General Sub-department of Industrial Safety of the Generalitat de Cataluña (Catalonia’s autonomous government), the Housing Agency of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and professionals from Bureau Veritas Ibérica and ECABureau Veritas, who acted as sponsors of the event. Last March, the Lift Guild of Catalonia collaborated with Construradio, by Radio RKB, participating in the informational building program, which dedicated a special space to the lift sector. A collaboration agreement is about to be signed between the Educational Consortium of Barcelona and the Lift Guild to promote and develop a mediumlevel training cycle in Electromechanical Maintenance adapted to the installation and maintenance of lifts, which has already been reviewed. Ascensores Eninter received a visit from students from Instituto Esteve Terrades at its facilities. Inelsa Zener collaborated with the Lift Guild by coordinating a visit from students doing the Electromechanical Maintenance Cycle at Barcelona’s Instituto Anna Gironella to various facilities. Mr. Pedro Piñero Ureña died in April at the age of 93; we will remember him as a very hardworking, practical, and magnanimous family man. May he rest in peace. FEEDA: On 20th May, the BOE, the official parliamentary record, published Royal Decree 203/2016, which establishes the essential safety requirements for new lifts and components introduced onto the market in the European Union. The General Board of the FEEDA, held on 16th April, agreed to reinforce the dissemination of the publications that have been published recently aimed at the users, workers, and owners of lifts. The FEEDA has created a computer tool that meticulously compares and analyses regulations UNE-EN 81-1 and UNE–EN 81-2 with respect to the new regulations UNE-EN 81-20 and UNE-EN 81-50, combined under Lift Directive 2014/33/UE. 64 - Ascensores y Montacargas
