El Modelo ITH de Sostenibilidad se instrumentalizó en una plataforma online, denominada iSave Hotel, a la que los hoteles y alojamientos turísticos pueden acceder de forma gratuita, y por medio de la cual sus gerentes pueden identificar las medidas de ahorro más necesarias para su establecimiento, acceder a un mapa de ayudas disponibles para eficiencia, así como a un listado de proveedores de servicios y productos eficientes. iSave Hotel, además de ser una herramienta tecnológica abierta a los alojamientos turísticos, proporciona un servicio de asesoramiento gratuito online en materia de sostenibilidad y eficiencia energética, que se complementa con una asesoría técnica presencial, de la que ya se han beneficiado 52 establecimientos hoteleros, que suman un total de 7.414 habitaciones. Los más de 100 hoteles inscritos en la herramienta online están situados a lo largo de toda la geografía nacional, cuentan con una antigüedad media de 30 años, incluyendo edificios que datan de entre 1912 y 2015, y abarcan categorías que van de las 2 a las 5 estrellas, por lo que el amplio espectro de la muestra proporciona información de valor para establecer algunas consideraciones respecto al estado de la planta hotelera española enmateria de sostenibilidad y eficiencia energética. Con objeto de identificar las principales áreas en las que deben enfocarse los planes de mejora, se han determinado cuatro aspectos clave: precio de la energía, sistemas de monitorización y control energético, instalaciones y envolvente de los edificios. En primer lugar, se ha detectado que la mitad de los hoteles analizados podría mejorar los precios de su suministro energético, un aspecto sobre el que resulta particularmente sencillo actuar, que además no requiere inversión y repercute de forma directa e inmediata sobre los costes, incrementando la capacidad de ahorro y, con ello, la competitividad del negocio. Los sistemas de monitorización y de control energético, representan uno de los puntos menos trabajados en el grupo de hoteles estudiado, requiriendo mejoras en el 80% de los casos analizados. Esto es especialmente importante debido a que lo que no se mide no se puede conocer ni controlar. En cuanto a las instalaciones técnicas, los ascensores y los sistemas de iluminación son las áreas en las que se han focalizado la mayor parte de los planes de mejora ejecutaThe ITH Sustainability Model is implemented via an online platform, called iSave Hotel, which hotels and tourist establishments access free of charge, and by means of which their managers can identify those saving measures that are most relevant to their own business. The tool includes a map of the funding available for efficiency measures, as well as a list of service providers and efficient products. Apart from being technologically open to tourist establishments, the iSave Hotel tool provides a free online advisory service on sustainability and energy efficiency, complemented by onsite technical advice. 52 hotel establishments, representing a total of 7,414 bedrooms, have already enjoyed the benefits of this service. The more than 100 hotels that have registered for the online tool are distributed the length and breadth of Spain. They are on average 30 years old, with some buildings dating back to 1912 and categories ranging from 2- to 5-star. This wide spectrum of examples provides valuable information when determining considerations about the status of Spain’s hotel stock in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency. To identify the main areas on which the improvement plans must focus, four key aspects have been established, namely: the price of energy; energy control and monitoring systems; installations; and the building envelope. First, it has been identified that half of the hotels analysed could improve the prices they have contracted for their energy consumption. This is an aspect on which it is very easy to take action, as no investment is required and there is a direct and immediate repercussion on costs, increasing the ability to save and therefore, business competitiveness. Energy control and monitoring systems represent one of the least applied measures in the group of hotels studied, with improvements required in 80% of the cases analysed. This is particularly important, as what has not been measured, can be neither identified or controlled. In respect of the technical installations, lifts and lighting systems are two areas onwhichmost of the improvement plans implemented to date have been focused.These are therefore optimised systems,with experience showing that there is scant margin for improvement in most cases of just 20% and 25%, respectively. However, by contrast, pumping systems have been identified as completely overlooked elements where no actions have been undertaken in any of the cases analysed. As a result, themargin for improvement is 100%. Similarly, half of hotels examined need to include water conduction systems into their improvement plans and consider the incorporation of more efficient materials. Similarly, temperature control and boiler systems are likely to be improved in 60% and 40% of cases respectively. Lastly, in relation to the thermal envelope of the buildings analysed, a margin for ISAVE HOTEL, LA PLATAFORMA DE EFICIENCIA ENERGÉTICA PARA HOTELES AMPLÍA SU ALCANCE A LA ECONOMÍA CIRCULAR Hace poco menos de dos años, el Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) lanzó, con el apoyo de la Secretaría de Estado de Turismo, el Modelo ITH de Sostenibilidad dirigido a establecimientos hoteleros y alojamientos turísticos, en el que se incluyó una compilación de buenas prácticas y medidas enfocadas a mejorar la eficiencia energética de los establecimientos, ayudándoles a incrementar ahorros económicos, al tiempo que mejoran su nivel de sostenibilidad. ISAVE HOTEL: THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY PLATFORM FOR HOTELS EXTENDS ITS SCOPE TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY In little under two years ITH, the Hotel Technological Institute has, with the support of the Secretary of State for Tourism, launched the ITH Sustainability Model. This model is geared towards hotel and tourist accommodation establishments and incorporates good practices and measures designed to improve their energy efficiency, helping them make greater economic savings while improving the level of sustainability of their businesses.
