Elevando la importancia de los residuos sanitarios Finalmente, nos gustaría destacar que los residuos sanitarios han adquirido una gran relevancia por la pandemia. Durante esta crisis sanitaria, unos profesionales altamente especializados se han encargado de gestionar los residuos generados. Y lo cierto es que el volumen de gestión para estos profesionales ha aumentado entre un 350%-400%, lo que ha supuesto un enorme reto para este sector. A esto hay que añadir que existen doce Comunidades Autónomas con una legislación específica en materia de gestión de residuos sanitarios, lo que genera una gran disparidad normativa para los gestores. Por eso, ASEGRE va a trabajar en 2021 para lograr una unidad normativa para estos residuos, ya que actualmente su clasificación y nomenclatura no es homogénea a lo largo del territorio nacional. Como se puede comprobar, sonmuchos los retos en 2021 a nivel nacional a los que habrá que sumar, a nivel europeo, la fuerte apuesta de la Comisión Europea por el Green Deal y el Plan de Acción de Economía Circular que se aprobará en los próximos meses. Este plan incluirá iniciativas interrelacionadas en materia de política de producto, pautas de consumo y medidas para reducir la producción de residuos. Gracias a esta iniciativa, la Unión Europea podrá disponer de un mercado interior de materias primas secundarias de alta calidad y más eficiente. Esperamos que todo ello, sumado a los fondos europeos, sea la mejor vía para salir de la actual crisis. Prioritising the importance of healthcare waste Finally, we must highlight the importance taken on by healthcare waste as a result of the pandemic. During this health crisis, highly specialised professionals have been in charge of managing the waste generated. The volume of healthcare waste managed by these professionals has increased by 350%- 400%, representing a huge challenge for the sector. In addition, twelve Autonomous Communities have specific legislation on healthcare waste management, which generates a great disparity in regulations for managers. For this reason, ASEGRE will work in 2021 to achieve regulatory unity for this waste, the classification and nomenclature of which is currently not homogeneous throughout Spain. As can be seen, there are many challenges in 2021 at national level. Added to these are the challenges at European level, given the European Commission’s strong commitment to the Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, which will be ratified in the coming months. This plan will include interrelated initiatives on product policy, consumption patterns and measures to reduce waste production. Through this initiative, the European Union will be in a position to have a more efficient internal market for highquality secondary rawmaterials. Our hope is that all this, together with European funds, will provide the best way out of the current crisis. ASEGRE will work to make this happen, by contributing value to the sector and representing our members in all decisionmaking centres, both in Spain and in Europe.
