Aragon launches two pilot projects of water management and implementation of renewable energy
March 15, 2010
Zaragoza hosted the first meeting of the project for the optimization of water and reduction of emissions (Power, in English), on 9 March. The Power, which took place at the beginning of financial year and in force until December of 2012, has a budget of EUR 1.5 million. It is also one of the 24 Spaniards approved within the Life programme, a financial instrument of the European Union devoted to the environment.
This project aims to demonstrate that greater efficiency in the management of the water, both in watering green areas of the cities, has an impact in greater savings and, similarly, on the invoice of the energy used to move itbeing 25% of energy consumption. In addition, the draft also refers to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, product of the management of this water resource, as assured by Cesar Romero, Assistant Director-general of the Foundation San Valero, Cesar Romero. According to Valero, the manipulation of a cubic metre of water is nine kilograms of emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. To that end, it seeks firstly, efficiency in management of water and, in second place, the implementation of renewable energy sources, as the wind, the thermal or solar, to move it. As a result, Romero has been reported that through the two pilot activities envisaged, it seeks to show how it saves water and energy, as well as implementing renewable energy sources. In the event that both prototypes to achieve the expected results would be moved to other towns in the European Union which would benefit from these water and energy savings. In the first meeting were formed working groups technical, schedule, and were planned future activities. The two pilot actions will be implemented during the month of October.
The project involves the Regantes community, Montesnegros, the company Sodemasa of the Government of Aragon, the Directorate General of waters of La Rioja, the society Europe, innovation and development (EID) and the Park Environment of Turin, technology partner specializing in renewables.
