Andaltec and the UJA will investigate the automation of the industrial plastic recycling
December 21, 2010
The technological centre of plastics (Andaltec) and the University of Jaen (UJA) have signed a collaboration agreement for the implementation underway of a project of r & d aimed at the improvement of technical plastic companies recycling. The project will save costs and reduce industrial waste
The objective of this research project is the development of a prototype industrial using techniques of sensory fusion that allows to automate the plastic recycling industrial, a task currently carried out almost handmade. The duration of the project of r & d, with an investment of 60,000 euros, is two years.
The rector of the University of Jaen, Manuel vines, pointed out the importance of this joint research project, as that will allow the transfer of knowledge from University to the productive tissue jiennense, with the mediation of the technology centre. "In this way, we put our laboratories and, above all, our human capital in the service of the companies in the sector of plastic, with which we want to strengthen ties," he said. In addition, vines has been happy to start a line of collaboration with Andaltec "I am convinced that will give many fruits".
Andaltec researchers work jointly with the Robotics, automation and vision research group for computer (GRAF) of the higher Polytechnic School of Jaen. First, determine the Group of sensors able to detect the different types and degrees of technical plastics in a reliable manner. The next step will consist of programming of a system of sensory fusion that achieves by means of artificial intelligence in a reliable way to distinguish different materials. Finally, they built a selection system prototype capable of separating the different types of materials industrially. This prototype will be located on the premises of the technological centre of plastics, in Martos.
