Bayer Materialscience Sponsors two scholarships of the Program of doctorate of the Iciq

Bayer Materialscience will fund two scholarships pre-doctorales (Scholarships Bayer) of the Program of doctorate of the Institut Català d'Investigació Chemical (ICIQ). The signature of the agreement has taken place today in the headquarters of the Iciq, by part of Jesús Loma-Ossorio, General Director of Bayer Materialscience, and Miquel To. Pericàs, Director of the Iciq.

This agreement is an example of collaboration inside the frame of Chemmed, the clúster chemical of Tarragona, that explains between his aims the one to promote the collaboration between the industrial state of Tarragona and the institutions generadoras of knowledge. From the 2009 the Program of scholarships of doctorate of the Iciq has allowed to attract students of doctorate highly qualified and from everywhere of the world. The program offers between 14 and 18 annual scholarships and allows to the students selected develop a project of investigation in the laboratories of the ICIQ under the supervision of a researcher. It is foreseen that the announcement of this year go out during the month of May and that during the month of September celebrate the act of reception of the scholarships by part of the students benefited.

By means of this agreement, Bayer bets by the learning of researchers that in the future will lead the chemical investigation. In this sense, Jesús Loma-Ossorio has commented that “am very happy to be able to collaborate with the Institut Català d'Investigació Chemical in the program of scholarships pre-doctorales”. And it has added that “the collaboration with other centres reflects that the investigation and the scientific learning are complementos basic indispensable that provide to the researchers of Bayer new ideas and advances for the development of new products in the fields of the health, the nutrition and the materials of high provision”.

By his part, the Pericàs considers that “for the Iciq, have the sponsorship of Bayer in our program of scholarships pre-doctorales closes the circle of a bilateral collaboration established from the creation of the Institute and concretised, so much in the participation of Bayer in the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Iciq and in the Business Council of the Institute, as in the establishment of programs of conjoint investigation oriented to aims of industrial interest. The Iciq is enormously appreciated to Bayer by this new initiative, and wait that the establishment of these scholarships pre-doctorales consolidate even more the collaboration between the two institutions”.
