Signing of the agreement between Ecoembes and Bilbao Exhibition Centre.
The main objectives of the plan are to reduce the amount of material that is currently intended to dump as much as possible and work towards the sustainable management of resources of Bilbao Exhibition Centre, thus contributing to follow the guidelines set by the European Union in the field of recycling of packaging waste. Therefore complement the existing system of separate collection of waste of papel-cartón and will be introduced a new dedicated light packaging, offering the possibility of normalizing the habit of the separation in origin and raising awareness to all professionals and agents involved.
The number and variety of activities, Bilbao Exhibition Centre generates a large volume of waste, among others, plastics, paper and cardboard, organic, wood, carpet, chatarra…, that are managed by different ways. Most of them, namely 75%, occur in the phase of dismantling of the events, while the rest are divided between the Assembly, with 20%, and the own holding, which is only 5% of the set. Total tons of garbage produced, it is estimated that 2% corresponds to light packaging, 28% to the cardboard paper, so the recoverable material would amount to 690 tons a year.
