On November 19, Ikerlan-IK4 opened a new laboratory specializing in micro- and nanotechnologies in the Garaia innovation pole in Arrasate (Guipúzcoa). The technological centre, integrated into the Mondragón group, reinforces its commitment to the development of cutting-edge technologies to promote the transfer again value to the company. The new installation of Ikerlan-IK4 will focus on emerging sectors such as health, energy, food security or environmental protection, although it will also address other areas mature in the Basque country as the automotive, household appliances or the machine tool. The laboratory, with an area of 2.754 square meters, has meant an investment of € 6,27 million. This new infrastructure includes a white room of 300 m
square with a scientific team
aimed at the scientific-technological research in the field of the
micro-nanotechnologies, developing competencies in the fields of the
Microfluidics, organic electronics and micro-nano-systems integration. In addition to this space, the new laboratory will incorporate the
infrastructure needed for the design of systems based on
Microtechnologies and space to accommodate future
spin-offs (new business initiatives, born in the midst of)
Ikerlan IK-4).
He is expected that the research team, consisting of 22 people, increase during the period 2009-2011. This increase will take place in the context of the strategic projection of Ikerlan-IK4 and CIC Microgune, cooperative research center specializing in Microtechnologies, who has set up its headquarters in this building.
