Italy maintains the orders for capital goods

The exception of the results of the year 2000, the latest data from Italy on orders for equipment are the best since 1995. The President of UCIMU (Sistemi per produrre), Andrea Riello, has gone a little further to say that, with political stability, could ensure better results.

Orders declined 20.8 per cent last year, with falls from 22.6 per cent in the internal market and of 18.6 percent in orders received from overseas. In the last quarter of the year 2001 orders declined 18.3 per cent, over the same period of the year 2000. If we take the reference to the year 1995 (base year = 100), we find that domestic orders, although they have declined by 19.5 percent, had a value of the 102,6. According to the Department of studies of UCIMU, is value higher in the past six years, with the exception, that is, the year 2000. Analysis of orders from abroad is more revealing. Orders from abroad fell by 15.9 percent with a BMI of 97, a lowest value that can be reported in the past few years.
The comparison with the two previous four-month periods shows a significant trend: the fall of orders occurred at the beginning of the year 2001 and it was softening as it passed the year. This fall was 39.3 per cent in the second quarter, of the 32.5 in the second and 18.3 per cent in the last quarter of the year.

On the other hand, Andrea Riello has stated that the return of political stability in Italy is necessary so that companies can recover its efficiency. Riello recalled that in countries such as Germany or Japan, the collaboration between the productive and political system has been a guarantee for long-term "for us it's an emergency measure", stressed.
In this regard, Riello supported to create a single "support service" to coordinate the activities of the various Italian public entities that operate abroad (ICE, SIMEST, SACE) and that is a simplification that promotes the Italian Ministry of industry. For Riello, collaboration between the Government and the employers Italian will help to create a system effective, essential to the activities of export and internationalisation of companies.
