April 18, 2011
"Rates remain unchanged for four years, and organizations trying to reduce them as a symbolic gesture of support to farmers, something that Asaja Madrid and the regional government have prevented", stressed Ivanna Martínez, Secretary General of AGIM-COAG. For its part, Jesus Anchuelo, Secretary general of UPA Madrid stressed that "the situation of farmers is so critical that everything that can be done is little to save the sector."
The UPA Madrid and AGIM-COAG have wanted to highlight that the proposal would not result in prejudice to owners of land and yes a little relief for farmers, faced a situation of increasingly higher production costs and prices of their products lower in origin.
