The rehabilitation of the Church of Castrillo of Murcia, winner of the prizes Edificación DIR – BASF 2013

Chaired by the general director of House, architecture and Urbanismo of the Board of Castile and Leon, Ángel María Sailor Peral, and by the rector of the University, Alfonso Murillo Villar, awarded like first prize to the work ‘Rehabilitation of the church of Castrillo of Murcia', near place to Boroughs, realised by Rodrigo Rivas Díez, Sandra Virumbrales Valderrama and Beatriz Thin Miguel. The work consists in an analysis of the pathologies of the stones of the church, examining his origin, carrying them to the laboratory and analysing his components. Determining like this his purity (89%), his porosidad (30%) and the existence or no of contaminantes in the rock. They analysed with these data the possible pathologies that can have the materials and determined which are the most likely, like the content of salts in the stone, descementación internal, endurecimiento superficial and the levigado of clays and differential deformation, proposing solutions to way of indication.

The second prize was for the work ‘Campus of low power', realised by Ainara Alfageme Somovilla and Maider Ruiz of Azúa Hernández. Based in creating an intelligent campus, efficient in the consumption of power and able to generate his own energetic resources, with the aim to achieve an energetic model more sustainable and able to anticipate to future problems.

Also conceded a third prize for the work ‘Hospital of the Conception: sustainable Rehabilitation', of Cristina González Sinobas and Luis Carlos of the Crag Arrive, standing out the wooden use of sustainable origin, obtained of legal form, by means of an ecological gestión of the forestry resources and with a maximum respect to the natural surroundings, for the rehabilitation of said hospital.

Besides the jury formed by professors of the school of the asignaturas of Construction V and Pathology and catering of the degree of Technical architecture awarded seven accésits of the more than 64 works presented in this sixth edition.

Accompanying to the rector of the University and to the General Director of House of the Board of Castile and Leon, were by part of the Association DIR, Eloy Urbón, president of said association, standing out “the bad moment that crosses the sector, the companies, and the investments reducing to zero. By this reason is the moment to pose constructions under the criterion of the sustainability and precisely is here where is the Association DIR and BASF Construction Chemicals, that bet with a sustainable construction, obtaining products that help to the rationalisation of natural resources, respectful with the environingingment and that generate saving in the consumption and the cost. The Association helps to the maintenance of a sustainable construction with the utilisation of the systems and products BASF”. It finished his intervention resaltando the differentiation of the companies that are inside the Association and those that no, “are companies certified in the ISO 9001 and some with the ISO 14000 of environingingmental efficiency, besides have proposed us establish some constructive processes based in application of products BASF certificates by an external company. Finally we are on line adapted to be the first group of companies that obtain the aseguramiento external of the finishings of the works in guarantee trienal of the customer”.

By part of BASF Construction Chemicals, had the presence of his director, Eduardo Brandao, resaltando the importance of the community of companies of the Association DIR, essential element to apply the products of BASF. Besides it stood out the prizes like “the union between the business world and the university, and the consciousness of the works for treating subjects like the sustainability of materials and the recovery of our heritage”.

Ángel María Sailor Peral, after visiting the exhibition of the works selected, stood out that “all the institutions have like central aim: the world of the rehabilitation, due to the fact that a so much percent of the population live in ancient houses with technologies of his moment. The stock that exists in the edificación -and the fault of subsidies- prevents to follow building houses to the rhythm of antaño, therefore in the short term it is necessary reorient the sector to the rehabilitation of buildings”.

Added that “from the Board of Castilla León are looking for solutions with a clear idea of consensus as it is the rehabilitation”. It closed his intervention appreciating the presence of the private companies in the university.

The director of the Upper Polytechnical School of the University of Boroughs, José Rubén Gómez Camera, resaltó the importance of the prizes Edificación DIR-BASF “that contribute, of active form, to the diffusion of new ideas, to dream and in definite, to lose the fear to innovar”.

Finally and closing the act of the delivery of the prizes, Alfonso Murillo Villar, rector of the University of Boroughs, after appreciating the presence of BASF and of the Association DIR in the university like inducement for the students, remarked that “the prizes represent a value added for the winners because in his curriculum academic always will be able to include this galardón and goes you help in your labour insertion”.
