The azulejero sector exports increased during the first quarter of 2011

During the first quarter of 2011 sales abroad of Spanish tiles and ceramic flooring industry grew 11.8% versus the first quarter of the previous year. In the month of March, the increase was 6.2 per cent over the same month of 2010. The value of exports during the first quarter of 2011 was 438,8 million euros, according to Ascer.
the past 12 months (April 2010 to March 2011) the value of exports has increased by 8%. Also, with the figures for March are reached three consecutive quarters of growth.
By geographical areas, the European Union, the natural market in the sector, is still the main destination for Spanish azulejera industry - represents 44.5 per cent of exports - although its growth figures are still low (1.7%).
The Middle East is consolidated, with a growth of 40% during this quarter, as the second destination in terms of importance, soaking up 19.3% of Spanish exports. Sales to the area of Eastern Europe, where Russia has a significant weight, grew by 26.5% and now account for 10% of total exports.
