Municipalities will have one more year, until 31 December 2011, to enter into contracts of electricity on the open market, as expressed by ministerial sources. The
FEMP, Spanish Federation of municipalities and provinces, had requested the measure, given the problems which, in the case of the consistories, taking place in the application of Royal Decree 485/2009, which regulates the implementation of the supply of last resort.
It will be recalled that last July came into force this decree that obliges the municipalities, among other clients with a contracted power exceeding 10 kW, to go to the market free and convene public competitions to renew their contracts. The FEMP had warned of the failure of many municipalities hire electrical supply, under the new conditions, in the absence of tenders in the marketing and, in some cases, the mandatory conditions they require to bid for the contracts.
Faced with this situation, the FEMP requested in his meetings with the distribution companies and the Ministry of industry day to arrive at a solution that takes into account both the needs of the municipalities of companies.
On Friday was due to expire within that councils could benefit from the conditions of the Royal Decree. The extension of one year will be effective with the official publication of the corresponding order of the Ministry of industry, which will pick up this measure.
