September 22, 2009
Yesterday at lunch time the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, gave the go-ahead to the renewal of the traffic lights of Barcelona with a mise en scene made before the press at the intersection of the streets Ausiàs March and Bruc.
New traffic lights will be more modern, more stylized, adapted for blind, in the form of banner and more sustainable, since they have lighting by leds. But in addition, it will be all centralized and they will have greater autonomy - 2 h in the event of power failure.
So, the city begins the month of September with the renewal of the network of traffic lights, the first phase, until 2011, will involve an investment of about 40 million euros.
The City Council recall that the antiquity of some traffic lights was already required action of this kind: about 35% of them have more than 10 years and some exceed even the 30. It should be recalled that, in 1927, Barcelona was the first city in the Spanish State in installing the first traffic light.
