Georg Fischer will be supplier in the expansion of the water-treatment of Abrera

As a palliative measure to the stage of drought affecting Catalonia, and as part of the plan of action alternatives to the diversion of the Ebro, the Generalitat planned to carry out to 30 projects, representing an investment of more than 1,333 million euros. These alternative performances are intended to guarantee the supply of water through desalination new, improved supply, recovery of aquifers and the re-use of generated water networks; as well as the improvement of their quality by improving the treatment of the purification plants. These actions to perform on desalination and purification include enlargement and improvement of the water-treatment of Abrera, located in the comarca of the Baix Llobregat.

The Generalitat de Catalunya has planned the construction of a second-line treatment to expand the capacity of the plant in order to be able to give service to a population of more than two million people, as well as the construction of a new desalination plant that improves the quality of the treated water. The contribution of the water-treatment is 20 cubic are of water a year and the cost of these works for the enlargement and improvement amounted to 65.5 million euros.

Georg Fischer has been the successful tenderer for the supply of thermoplastic piping systems that make up the EDR modules, up to a total of nine units. Also, Georg Fischer will supply several complete systems for different areas of the ETAP, such as chemical pretreatment or transport of the water of process until the batteries.

With this project, Georg Fischer strengthens its position in the market of water treatment as a leader in the supply of systems and solutions for the different processes, and strengthens this lead to quality and guarantee of a company with experience and know-how more than 200 years in industrial processes and applications.
