December 14, 2010
The goal of the GHS (Globally Harmonized System), is to harmonize many existing global classification and labelling systems. Harmonized criteria allow classifying chemicals by the danger they pose and tag them through statements and standardized hazard pictograms.
The decision to create the GHS originated in 1992 in the Conference of the United Nations. After an intensive technical work to agree on harmonized criteria, the GHS was published in 2002. The European Union adapted the GHS to the new regulation called ' CLP - Classification Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures), repealing the previous directive. On December 1 past ended the period of adaptation to this new regulation.
In recent months, all the manufacturers and importers of chemical substances classified as dangerous have had to adapt their labels and data sheets of security according to the new CLP regulation.
The company ' Panreac Química', actively present in the sector of chemistry and chemical reagents fine, has adapted to such legislation, and also makes available to the general public safety poster in chemical laboratories with an explanation of the new pictograms. It is a tool that will be critical in all laboratories.
