Perfluoroelastómero Isolast improves performance
The range of materials Isolast are perfluoroelastómeros specifically developed by Busak+Shamban for the manufacture of boards. They are resistant to virtually all chemicals, working temperatures of up to 325 ° C (617 ° F) and a permanent deformation (compression set) are low and long term.
The chemical company included in the trials Isolast J8325 and Isolast J9503. Isolast J8325 material is specially designed to withstand very high temperature loads, with a working temperature continuous up to 325 ° c (617 ° F).
For its part, Isolast J9503 has resistance to virtually all media, including hot amines, other nucleophiles, steam pressure up to 240 ° C (464 ° F), ethylene oxide and oxide from propylene, esters, ketones, acids and strong alkalis.
In the trials of the involved chemical company were immersed Isolast materials and other competitive FFKM compounds in several media very aggressive chemicals, for 112 days at various temperatures. After this time, measured the volume of the material. An increase in the volume of 20 per cent is classified in "critical threshold" for boards in this kind of experiments. Above this value, tightness material not be considered suitable for estanquizar in a medium chemical at temperatures where the event of a change of over 20 per cent volume.
Trials
- Hot aniline to 184 ° C (363 ° F).
- Nitrotolueno up to 175 ° C (347 ° F).
- O-dichlorobenzene (ODCB) up to 180 ° C (356 ° F).
- Diamine of ethylene (EDA) up to 100 ° C (212 ° F).
- Acid clorosulfónico (CSS RT).
- Solution of hydrochloric acid to 20 per cent up to 108 ° C (226 ° F).
- Solution of sulphuric acid and compounds of sulfuric acid to 87 per cent up to 175 ° C (347 ° F).
- Nitric acid 65% between 50 ° C (122 ° F) and 122 ° C (252 ° F).
- Hot air at 180 ° C (356 ° F).
Results obtained
- Isolast J9503 had the change in volume lowest of all the perfluoroelastómeros tested in all chemicals.
- The change of volume of Isolast J8325 and Isolast J9503 was less than 20 per cent to all temperatures in aniline, nitrotolueno, o-dichlorobenzene, clorosulfónico acid, hydrochloric acid and nitric acid.
- In many of these chemicals, the change of volume of Isolast J8325 and Isolast J9503 actually was below 10 per cent.
- Isolast J8325 and Isolast J9503 had the greater chemical resistance of all tested perfluoroelastómeros.
- Isolast J8325 presented a change in volume of more than 20 percent in a single chemical product, ethylene diamine; but in this environment, the change in volume was less than 20 per cent for Isolast J9503.
In conclusion, Isolast J9503 has become the compound of reference with which chemical company tests and compares their perfluoroelastómeros before can be specified for use in its processing plants. Comparing the cost with the behavior of other perfluoroelastómeros, Isolast J8325 and Isolast J9503 proved to be of maximum profitability.
