The President of the National Federation of irrigators visit the channel on the right of the Ebro
June 26, 2006
The President of the National Federation of communities of irrigators (Fenacore), Campo Andrés, recently traveled to Amposta to visit the channel on the right of the Ebro. The occasion also served to hold the general Assembly of the Federation, where more than a hundred of irrigation of all Spain could discuss the main problems currently affecting the sector. These issues include the scarcity of water works to deal with the cycles of drought, the need to modernize the infrastructure of irrigation, the future of the common agricultural policy subsidies and the crisis of popularity across the farmers irrigation.
The main objective of this visit, which was framed within the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the construction of the canal, was to learn about the model of sustainable management of the deltas and wetlands of this community, and take it as a reference for the responsible and sustainable exploitation of the landscapes in the periphery to the mouths of the rivers of our Spanish, among them the Valencia Albufera, the estuary of the Guadalquivir and Ebro Delta.
During his visit, the President of Fenacore called for the participation of farmers irrigators in the sustainable development of the deltas and wetlands dedicated, for the most part, to the cultivation of rice, so ensuring the performance of farms and the respect for the environment.
