The agrarian organizations requested that it activates the private storage of olive oil

More than 2 months have passed since the organizations sent a letter to the Minister with this request without any reply to date, which according to them is a contempt for the sector that they represent. Since then, the market situation has worsened considerably with prices in origin far removed from the costs of production, in the case of the lamp quality, they are 32% lower than those costs.

The Spanish Government is repeating itself, according to the agrarian organizations, the same error of the last campaign, to wait for that market prices are lower than the reference price fixed by the Commission to request the activation of this mechanism. The single CMO activates this mechanism in situations of "serious disturbance of the market" as it is the case at present that prices in origin corresponds to values well below the average of production costs.

The problem is compounded for being the second consecutive year that this ruinous price situation for olive producers and which clearly threatens the viability of many Spanish olive farms. For this reason a meeting has been requested the Minister to find immediate solutions to this situation and to request the Commission urgently the activation of the private storage mechanism.
