Hortyfruta will report how Morocco affects the Almeria horticultural sector, before the Marm
September 28, 2009
On the occasion of an emergency meeting, Hortyfruta decided to send a letter to the Ministry of environment and Rural and marine environment describing the consequences of failure to comply with the agreement of Morocco in the Almeria horticulture and thus, in the rest of the country. For this reason, the entity will be sent a document detailing production and prices at the time of the campaign in which such infringements occur. In that case, the Andalusian interprofessional organisation of fruit and vegetables met to set a common stance towards the commercial association agreement. For this reason, during the meeting the interprofessional assessed the economic impact which represents the accumulation of losses for the sector.
During the meeting, Hortyfruta studied the available information on the current process of negotiation of the association agreement between the European Union and the Moroccan Kingdom, as well as the latest statements with regard to members of the Marm - including those of Minister Elena Espinosa-that according to provincial organizations "they undermined the whole of the Almeria fruit and vegetable sector". Across the Board, expressed disagreement - by attendees - with the defence as to the practices of the North African country the Spanish Government. "It is becoming deaf to a very important sector for the Andalusian economy, which is responsible for the fruit and vegetable trade balance, while the Moroccan country is misreporting the entry of the tomato prices and committing a fraud against Community finances", as ratified the European Bureau of the fight against fraud in 2007 ".
Regarding the current situation of the agreement, Hortyfruta values that "no they are taking the right steps, that should come first the interests of Community producers". For this reason, the entity sources say that they will work "as solid and United so that compliance with the agreement and prevent extension of the tomato quota and takes into account the calendars of production".
