C.R.D.O. Toro

The Toro denomination of origin has a Control Board that enforces the rules laid down in the rules of procedure, which guarantees the quality of the product (order 29 of may of 1987 by the Ministry of agriculture, fisheries and food). This Council guarantees the quality more than fifty covered wineries, authorizing wine white, rosé and red wines these last with the mention of "young", "crianza", "reservations" and "great reservations".

Also encourages the planting of the variety native, fixed the density of planting, maximum production and take care that in the elaboration of wines is follow standards and techniques, thus ensuring the quality of the wines.

Another of its functions is the defense of the good name of the mention and promotion of the wines covered in national markets as foreign.
The wines of Toro have a great tradition. Its origins predate the settlement of the Romans.

In the Middle Ages it was considered of great appreciation, being granted Royal privileges that allowed its marketing in cities where other wine sales was prohibited.

Actual warehouses and ships that would reach the lands of the new world were filled with these wines.

During the 19th century is exported in large quantities to France to compensate for the lack of wine caused by the phylloxera plague.

In the seventies of the 20th century the first steps taken to create that with the passage of time would become the Toro designation of origin, whose culmination comes in 1987.

Currently the Council regulator of the Toro designation of origin guarantees the quality of 51 wineries.

The evolution that has experienced in the last few decades has led them to be protagonists of the magma that dragged criticism of wines both nationally and internationally.
