abs Events Interlift 2015: With 540 exhibitors and 42,500 m² of surface area occupied, this year’s edition of the exemplary worldwide meeting of the lift sector had already hit two new milestones before it even opened, when it hit another, even better, one: 20,440 visitors, 1,500 more than two years ago, which is the best figure in its entire history. Matelec, the International Fair of Solutions for the Electrical and Electronics Industry, has set up a series of professional meetings under the title «Matelec Sector Roundtables.» This initiative seeks to bring together the different points of view held by all of these layers, leading to the new sector proposal of Ifema, ePower & Building. Liftex is the lift sector’s leading event in the United Kingdom, and it will take place on 25th and 26th May of next year, 2016, in London’s ExCel. This fair, which is held every three years, will include a variety of free seminars in which different experts will discuss the main topics that affect the sector. The 2015 edition of Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), which took place from 17th to 19th November in Barcelona, was the largest held to date: 500 cities were present, with 465 exhibitors and 400 speakers, attracting 14,000 visitors. Associations GEDAC: The Professional Association of Industrial Technical Engineers of Barcelona has organised talks and conferences for 2015 related to the topic of «Remodelling,» with the participation of renowned companies and organisation, among them the Lift Guild of Catalonia. The Guild’s talk was a summary of the history of the lift, detailing the different regulations and the evolution of the sector. The Guild of Catalonia registered its trademark in December of 2005, renewing it now for a new period of time. The associated companies can use the GEDAC trademark when they have accepted the manual of good practices. The training of fire fighters continues to be a joint challenge for the Guild, which, through its associated companies, collaborates and participates in the basic training offered to Fire Fighters, specifically in rescuing people trapped in lifts. The Lift Guild of Catalonia has signed a collaboration agreement with the Department of Education and with the Catalonia Department of Occupation for the evaluation and accreditation of professional skills acquired through work experience or non-regulatory training. The ELA has updated the association’s logo and website in order to improve its visibility and to turn over a new leaf for the most representative organisation in the sector. The new logo is designed to illustrate and emphasize the role of lifts and escalators in buildings and cities.
