Esperanza Rico Directora La ambición en el uso de energías renovables debe duplicarse en las CDNs para 2030 De acuerdo con un nuevo informe de la Agencia Internacional de Energías Renovables (IRENA), presentado en la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (COP25) en Madrid, los países deben elevar de manera significativa su nivel de ambición en el terreno de las energías renovables, adoptando objetivos para transformar el sistema energético mundial en la próxima ronda de Contribuciones Determinadas a Nivel Nacional (CDNs). El informe, “CDNs en 2020: Promoviendo las energías renovables en el sector eléctrico y más allá”, pone de manifiesto que la ambición en el uso de energías renovables en las CDNs debe más que duplicarse de aquí a 2030, para que el mundo alcance los objetivos fijados en el Acuerdo de París, alcanzando para entonces 7,7 TW de potencia renovable instalada a escala mundial. Los compromisos actuales bajo las CDNs en materia de energías renovables están muy lejos de esta cifra, ya que solamente permitirían llegar a 3,2 TW. Este informe afirma que con la capacidad renovable instalada actualmente, que es superior a 2,3 TW, ya se ha instalado casi la mitad de la capacidad adicional de este tipo de energía prevista en las CDNs. El análisis también hace hincapié en que el nivel de ambición en lo que respecta a las energías renovables, se puede elevar de una manera eficiente en coste con considerables beneficios socioeconómicos en todo el mundo. Renewable energy ambition in NDCs must double by 2030 A new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), released at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid, indicates that countries must significantly raise their renewable energy ambition, adopting targets to transform the global energy system in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The report, “NDCs in 2020: Advancing Renewables in the Power Sector and Beyond”, shows that in order for the world to meet the Paris Agreement goals for 2030, renewable energy ambition within the NDCs would have to more than double by 2030 to achieve 7.7 TW of globally installed capacity. Current renewable energy pledges under the NDCs are falling well short of this figure, as they will only be able to reach 3.2 TW. The report states that with today’s installed renewable capacity of over 2.3 TW, almost half of the additional renewable energy capacity foreseen by the current NDCs has already been installed. The analysis also highlights that delivering on increased renewable energy ambition can be achieved in a cost-effective way, with considerable socio-economic benefits across the world.
