Desde que en 2009 se lanzara la primera criptomoneda, el bitcoin, el número de divisas digitales se ha multiplicado, dando paso a una montaña rusa de subidas y bajadas de cotización. Sólo el bitcoin ascendió entre noviembre y diciembre hasta los 20.000 dólares desde los 6.000, entorno al que volvió en sus mínimos del 6 de febrero, para situarse de nuevo en los últimos días por encima de los 10.000 dólares. Según un análisis de la compañía alemana Kaiserwetter, especialista en gestión de activos, que integra los aspectos técnico y financiero de las energías renovables mediante el uso de la tecnología digital más avanzada y el Internet de las Cosas, las energías renovables se presentan como una inversión con mayor futuro a medio plazo que las divisas digitales. Las divisas digitales ya enfrentan una fuerte reacción por parte de la regulación de los gobiernos, debido a que no son dinero patrocinado por ellos; no poseen un valor intrínseco como el oro (los algoritmos pueden ser cambiados, la geología no) y, también, por su impacto ambiental. Posiblemente por ello, grandes inversores entre los que se incluye Warren Buffett han recomendado alejarse de esta inversión: “Puedo decir casi con total certeza que tendrán un mal final”, ha declarado, pronunciándose al mismo tiempo por favorecer las energías renovables. Buffett anunció en la última junta anual de Berkshire Hathaway que si alguien entrase por la puerta con un proyecto solar de 1.000 o 3.000 M$, estaba listo para invertir en él. Buffett se halla inmerso en la inversión en el mayor proyecto solar del mundo, Antelope Valley Solar Project, con una potencia de 579 MW. El presidente del gigante financiero suizo UBS, Axel Webber, también alertó de que las criptomonedas “no serían una inversión que recomendase”. UBS es una de las empresas que han apostado por las inversiones sostenibles, como miembro inversor del CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project). Además es una de las 125 grandes empresas mundiales que componen la iniciativa RE100, que se han comprometido a que su consumo eléctrico sea 100% renovable en 2025, como Apple, Starbucks, Nestlé, Goldman Sachs, General Motors, o Google. Otros magnates que apuestan por las renovables son Bill Gates, Jack Ma o Mark Zuckerberg, que lanzaron Breakthrough Energy Ventures, un fondo de 1.000 M$ para energías limpias. Jack Ma, fundador de Alibaba, es una de las voces que se ha pronunciado contra las inversiones en bitcoins con un escueto “No es para mí”. This is possibly the reason why large investors, includingWarren Buffett, recommend staying away from this investment: “I can say almost with certainty that they will come to a bad ending”, he stated, while coming out in favour of renewable energies. Buffett announced at the last general meeting of Berkshire Hathaway that if anyone were to step through the door with a solar project of US$1 or 3 billion, then he would be ready to invest in it. Buffett is very much involved in the investment for the world’s largest solar project, the 579 MW Antelope Valley Solar Project.
