Separated organic fraction: The fraction of less than Ø80 mm is mainly composed of organic matter and is conveyed by belts that can direct this fraction either to the methanisation module or to the biostabilisation module (current situation). Reject: The reject from the secondary sorting booths is conveyed to the reject baling presses. The stream falls onto an existing two-way conveyor that alternately discharges it into one of the two reject balers (one new baler and another existing unit that has undergone a comprehensive overhaul). These balers ensure high-density reject compaction at all times, even in the event of a failure of one of the presses. The operation of the entire plant does not have to be interrupted for technical reasons, despite the continuous cleaning and maintenance work required by the reject baling presses during a working day. The downtime required by one of the balers for cleaning will be covered by the work of the second baling press, and vice versa. The new reject baling press will have a shrink-wrapping system for reject bales installed at the bale discharge point, which is connected to the new reject bale hall. The reject bale shrinkwrapping system is installed for the purpose of meeting the objectives of the updated Integrated Waste Plan of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. This action minimises odour emissions, while facilitating bale handling. It also ensures that reject bales will not spill or leak during transport to the disposal facility, thus significantly improving the visual impact of the landfill. b) New Solid Recovered Fuel production facility In order to reduce unrecoverable reject and meet the objectives of the Integrated Waste Plan of the Autonomous Community of Valencia, a fully equipped Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) production facility will be created. This includes an RDF drying system to facilitate the conversion of RDF into Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), which must comply with the more stringent moisture content requirements set out in the in the UNE-EN 15359 Standard. The execution of the RDF line will require investment of 3.7 million euro and will result in the production of SRF with a volume of 15% of the input waste. The RDF drying facility will reuse heat from the cogeneration engines, thus optimising the plant’s energy processes. As mentioned previously, the reject from the flat fraction can either be fed to the existing secondary sorting booth prior to being baled as reject or transported to the RDF production facility, which will feature a secondary shredding line. A new magnetic separator will be installed upstream of the secondary shredding line to prevent small metal pieces that may have not have been previously removed from ending up in the shredding process. A two-way conveyor will be installed to distribute the stream evenly between the two secondary shredders, which will have an outlet particle size between Ø30 mm and Ø40 mm. www.futurenviro.es | Julio-Septiembre July-September 2021 77 (CITR) de ‘Las Marinas’, en El Campello, Alicante | ‘Las Marinas’ (CITR) in El Campello, Alicante
