Mujeres y Medio Ambiente | Women & Environment www.futurenviro.es | Junio-Julio June-July 2021 15 Para conseguirlo, debemos apostar por la innovación, la investigación y el desarrollo tanto en las STEM como en las humanidades Creo firmemente que tenemos que cambiar como sociedad, reinventar el futuro ante los cambios sociales, demográficos y los limites planetarios que estamos alcanzando. No se trata de demonizar determinados ámbitos, sino de buscar la racionalidad y la eficiencia para avanzar, entre todos, hacia una sociedad más justa, equitativa y sostenible. Discrepo con aquellas visiones y propuestas que quieren volver a los años 50, sin incorporar los avances tecnológicos y digitales de los últimos años. Parte del progreso económico, cultural, social y sanitario de las décadas más recientes nos ha llevado a rozar los límites. Sin embargo, también nos ha permitido conseguir una sociedad más educada, crítica, saludable, longeva y con capacidad de solucionar problemas. Para conseguir este equilibrio entre avanzar y racionalizar debe haber una apuesta clara por la innovación, la investigación y el desarrollo tanto en las STEM como en las humanidades, y un conocimiento real de cada especificidad. Nuestro país está en la cola de los países de la Unión Europea en presupuesto público Y privado dedicado a la innovación y al desarrollo. No hay un apoyo real a la ciencia y al conocimiento y se están tomando decisiones a nivel político europeo y nacional desde despachos con total desconocimiento de las necesidades reales de los ciudadanos, de los territorios y de los municipios. Si hay algo en lo que se debe distinguir el siglo XXI, es en priorizar a las personas y al medio ambiente antes que al dinero, que, por supuesto, es necesario para poder progresar. Para ello, hay que esforzarse en conocer las diferentes necesidades y especificidades. Ser equitativo que no es lo mismo que igualitario. However, it has also allowed us to achieve a more educated, critical, healthy society with greater life expectancy and problem-solving capacity. Achieving this balance between progress and rationalisation requires a firm commitment to innovation, research and development in both STEM and the humanities, and a real knowledge of each specificity. Our country is at the bottom of the EU table in terms of public AND private budgets for innovation and development. There is no real support for science and knowledge, and decisions are being taken at European and national political level from offices with total ignorance of the real needs of citizens, territories and municipalities. If there is one area in which the 21st century must stand out, it is putting people and the environment before money, although the latter is, of course, necessary for progress. To do so, we must strive to be aware of different needs and specificities. Being equitable is not the same as being egalitarian. Environmental, social and economic sustainability, terms that we have all incorporated into our language, requires us to be aware of the singularities and to offer, through science, innovation and technology, the most appropriate solutions with a global and transversal vision.
