www.futurenviro.es FuturEnviro | Marzo/Abril March/April 2020 5 Editorial Editorial El medio ambiente, un aliado para salir de la crisis Es inevitable en estas fechas ponerse delante de un papel en blanco y no hablar de coronavirus, y de la palabra que acompaña en estos días cualquier crónica, artículo, comentario...crisis. Porque jamás ha vivido el mundo una crisis como la que ahora presenciamos, una crisis con muchas caras y aunque todas tienen su importancia, quiero comenzar este editorial con su cara más triste, la del drama de las miles de personas con nombre y apellidos que se están quedando en el camino, brindando el más sentido pésame de FuturENVIRO para todas las familias afectadas. Otra de las caras de la crisis que preocupa, y mucho, es la económica, y las consecuencias que traerá para las familias, las empresas y la sociedad en general. Cada día recibimos noticias del posible impacto y alcance de dicha crisis, porcentajes de caída de la economía, tiempo necesario para volver a los niveles de tal o tal año, en España, en Europa, en todo el mundo. Si bien la solución es compleja e interdisciplinar, y está en la mano de los diferentes gobiernos; desde FuturENVIRO queremos poner en valor la importancia del sector medioambiental, tanto en el momento actual, como su valor para la reactivación y recuperación económica. En primer lugar, porque al hablar de sectores esenciales, no hace falta destacar lo primordial en estos días de garantizar la gestión y correcto tratamiento de los residuos y el abastecimiento de agua a hogares, empresas, industrias, y como no a hospitales, hoteles y cualquier centro sanitario, en el que estos días se lucha contra la pandemia. Y en segundo lugar, porque cuando esto acabe, el medio ambiente y caminar hacia una economía circular, seguirán siendo pilares fundamentales para la recuperación económica. En este sentido, la economía circular y las tecnologías más limpias y menos contaminantes son clave para apoyar una recuperación económica limpia y sostenible, ya han demostrado su capacidad de generación de empleo, y se presentan como una herramienta más de lucha contra el coronavirus, por cuanto varios estudios ya han demostrado que la contaminación y la mala calidad del aire y el porcentaje de casos graves, críticos y decesos, están íntimamente ligados. También hemos querido durante esta crisis dar voz a expertos de los sectores energético y medioambiental, sectores objetivo de nuestras dos publicaciones FuturENVIRO y FuturENERGY, que a través de interesantes vídeos que estamos subiendo regularmente a nuestros canales de YouTube, aportan su experiencia sobre cómo afrontar esta crisis desde los diferentes segmentos del mercado. ¡No te los pierdas, suscríbete a nuestro canal de YouTube! The environment, our ally in emerging from the crisis At times such as these, it is impossible when faced with a blank sheet of paper to avoid talking about the coronavirus and the one word that accompanies any chronicle, article or commentary: crisis. Because the world has never experienced a crisis such as this. A crisis with many dimensions and although all are important in different ways, I would like to start this editorial by mentioning its saddest aspect: the drama of thousands of people with names and surnames who are losing their lives. All of us at FuturENVIRO would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to every family affected. Another very worrying aspect of this crisis is its economic impact and the consequences for families, businesses and society as a whole. Every day, we receive news of the potential impact and scope of this crisis, percentage falls in the economy, the time it will take to return to the levels of one year or another, in Spain, in Europe and around the world. Although the solution is complex and cross-disciplinary, and the responsibility of the different governments, FuturENVIRO would like to underline the importance of the environment sector, both right now, and in terms of economic reactivation and recovery in future. Firstly, because when speaking of essential sectors, it is hardly necessary to highlight the importance at this time of guaranteeing correct waste management and treatment, and ensuring the supply of water to homes, businesses and industry, as well as to hospitals, hotels and other healthcare centres currently engaged in combating the pandemic. And secondly, because when all this is over, the environment and the transition to a circular economy will continue to be a fundamental pillar of the economic recovery. The circular economy, and the cleanest and least-contaminating technologies are key for supporting a clean and sustainable economic recovery. They have already proven their capacity for job creation and offer one further tool to fight the coronavirus: several studies have already shown the intrinsic link between pollution, poor air quality and the percentage of severe and critical cases and fatalities. During this crisis, we are also providing a platform for experts from the energy and environments sectors, the sectors at the heart of our FuturENVIRO and FuturENERGY publications.
