AgroBioHeat está ya en pleno funcionamiento y las primeras acciones relevantes están teniendo lugar. La Asociación Española de Valorización Energética de la Biomasa (AVEBIOM) y el centro tecnológico CIRCE, socios españoles de este proyecto, agruparon el día 26 de septiembre a varias empresas en un evento celebrado en Expobiomasa ‘19 para lanzar un mensaje claro y que es leitmotiv del proyecto: la agrobiomasa puede ser usada en granjas, agroindustrias, instalaciones municipales rurales, generando ahorros en las facturas energéticas, aportando valor local a la biomasa y contribuyendo a una mejor gestión de los subproductos agrícolas, a la economía circular y al desarrollo rural. Ahora bien, como transmitieron en dicho evento, es preciso hacerlo con tecnologías adecuadas y maduras, capaz de usar la agrobiomasa con eficiencia, y generando bajas emisiones. Ya hay innovaciones y productos maduros, tal y como presentaron las empresas participantes, capaces de recolectar, tratar y aprovechar energéticamente la disparidad de combustibles que se agrupan bajo el término agrobiomasa: paja, podas agrícolas, hueso de aceituna, cáscara de almendra, o cultivos energéticos herbáceos y leñosos, entre otros. Pero más allá, AVEBIOM y CIRCE siguen abriendo brecha para que el consumo de la agrobiomasa en pequeñas instalaciones sea un hecho en un futuro cercano. Es así que a través del proyecto AgroBioHeat se ha abierto una llamada a iniciativas pioneras, que podrán ser apoyadas y visualizadas a través de las acciones de AgroBioHeat, que podrán registrarse hasta enero de 2020. Los interesados pueden contactar con los responsables de AgroBioHeat describiendo su proyecto de agrobiomasa. Las iniciativas presentadas deben cumplir con varios objetivos: hacer uso de agrobiomasa generada de forma local, tener previsto instalar tecnologías de calderas de baja potencia (< 500 kW) modernas y automatizadas, y contar con la aceptación social en su entorno. Ejemplos de ello podrían ser ayuntamientos rurales que deseen instalar una red AgroBioHeat is now fully up and running and the first significant actions are currently underway. On September 26, AVEBIOM and the CIRCE technology centre, the project’s Spanish partners, brought together a number of companies at an event held at Expobiomasa ‘19 to launch a clear message and explain the leitmotiv of the project: agro-biomass can be used on farms, in agro-industry companies and rural municipal facilities for the purpose of reducing energy bills, adding local value to biomass, and contributing to better management of agricultural byproducts, the circular economy and rural development. Nevertheless, as outlined at this event, it is necessary to do so with appropriate, mature technologies capable of using agrobiomass efficiently with low emissions. These mature innovations and products are now available and were showcased by the participating companies. Current technologies are capable of collecting, treating and recovering energy from the wide variety of fuels encompassed by the term agro-biomass: straw, agricultural prunings, olive pits, almond shells, and herbaceous and ligneous energy crops, amongst others. AVEBIOM and CIRCE are continuing to lay the foundations that will make agro-biomass consumption in small facilities a reality in the near future. In this respect, the AgroBioHeat project has issued a call for pioneering initiatives that can be supported and given visibility through AgroBioHeat actions. These pioneering initiatives can be submitted up to January 2020. Interested parties can contact AgroBioHeat coordinators and provide them with a description of their biomass projects. The initiatives submitted must meet the following objectives: make use of locally-generated agro-biomass, envisage the installation of modern, automated, low-power boiler technologies (< 500 kW) and enjoy social acceptation in their surrounding areas. Examples of potential project promotors include rural local councils wishing to install heating networks, energy service companies (ESCOs) with potential clients who are not fully decided with respect to biomass and agro-industry companies seeking to use their by-products for self-consumption. CIRCE and AVEBIOM will put their extensive experience and innovative vision of how to approach installation and supply at the service of these actors. AVEBIOM and CIRCE have also commenced a campaign to create alliances throughout Spain and generate a growing movement of support for agro-biomass. AgroBioHeat seeks alliances with actors capable of providing appropriate solutions, such as manufacturers with mature boiler and treatment equipment technologies, installers and ESCOs interested in heat with agro-biomass. Moreover, AgroBioHeat wishes to create interest amongst potential agro-biomass consumers, located mainly in rural areas, such as agroindustries, farms, local councils and companies or industrial estates seeking a local, cost-effective energy source.
