Aspectos como el cambio climático, la contaminación, la pobreza, la exclusión social y las desigualdades son algunos de estos retos ante los que es necesario establecer un compromiso con la sociedad, siempre refrendado con hechos, porque sólo así las entidades, organizaciones y empresas recibirán la confianza y el reconocimiento general, poniendo también frente a estos retos, de forma indirecta, al resto de la sociedad para que emprendan el mismo camino. SIGAUS, la entidad que gestiona en España los aceites industriales usados, impulsa desde 2012 este compromiso social, a la par que desarrolla su labor medioambiental a través de un modelo de Economía Circular, en el que los residuos pasan a convertirse en recursos válidos para formar parte de nuevos procesos productivos de forma indefinida, aprovechando el potencial de valorización que presenta el aceite industrial usado, que es 100% recuperable y aprovechable. Quizá por ello, su labor social no trasciende de la misma manera, como ocurre con sus bosques urbanos. Un proyecto que, desde 2012, ha permitido financiar la plantación de árboles contribuyendo a la reforestación del entorno y a la compensación de emisiones de CO2. Climate change, pollution, poverty, social exclusion and inequality are some of the challenges that make it necessary to establish a commitment to society, a commitment backed up by deeds. Only in this way can entities, organisations and businesses receive general public confidence and recognition, whilst also, indirectly, encouraging the rest of society to embark upon the same path by also making a commitment to address these challenges. Since 2012, SIGAUS has promoted this social commitment, whilst carrying out its environmental work through the implementation of a circular economy model. Through this model, waste is converted into resources suitable for use in new production processes indefinitely and advantage is taken of the valorisation potential of used industrial oil, which is 100% recoverable and usable. Perhaps because of its environmental work, the social work carried out by SIGAUS does not stand out in the same way. An example is provided by the entity’s Urban Forest project. Since 2012, this project has enabled tree planting to be funded, thus contributing to the reforestation of the environment and offsetting CO2 emissions. To date, eight campaigns have been organised, giving rise to eight “SIGAUS Forests” in the region of Madrid: Alcobendas (2012), Majadahonda (2013), Las Rozas (2014), Coslada (2015), Leganés (2016), Collado Villalba (2017), Colmenar Viejo (2018) and, most recently, Villalbilla (2019). Within the framework of its Social Corporate Responsibility policy, SIGAUS also provides support for the more underprivileged members of society. In 2019, the entity has entered into collaboration agreements with the following foundations that support sick children and the disabled: Fundación Síndrome de Dravet, Fundación Porque Viven and APADIS. SIGAUS has been collaborating with the former two foundations for the last two years, whilst the collaboration agreement with APADIS began this year as part of SIGAUS’ social projects, with the aim of achieving full social inclusion of people with different capacities. The financial support provided helps these organisations to carry out their projects: research in the case of the Dravet Syndrome, EL COMPROMISO SOCIAL DE SIGAUS: FORMACIÓN, INFORMACIÓN Y SENSIBILIZACIÓN SIGAUS, la entidad encargada en España de la correcta gestión del aceite industrial usado en España, muestra su compromiso social con iniciativas como sus bosques urbanos, nuevos espacios verdes creados para luchar contra el calentamiento global, o con el apoyo a distintas organizaciones que trabajan con colectivos vulnerables, como la infancia o las personas con discapacidad. En el marco de su labor en materia de formación y divulgación, SIGAUS también impulsa su Aula Ambiental, un proyecto en el que cada año se forma a numerosos alumnos de los sectores de la automoción, la ingeniería y la industria con el objetivo de dotarles de las competencias necesarias para enfrentar los retos medioambientales que deberán asumir en su futuro desarrollo profesional. Its social commitment is demonstrated by initiatives such as Urban Forests, newgreen spaces created to combat global warming, and support for a number of organisations thatworkwith vulnerable groups, such as children and the disabled. As part of the training and disseminationwork it carries out, SIGAUS also has an Environmental Classroom, a project inwhich training is provided each year to numerous studentswith future careers in the automotive industry, engineering and industry in general. The aim is to provide themwith the competences needed to address the environmental challenges theywill encounter during the course of their careers.
