Desde el mes de mayo y hasta octubre de este año, los vecinos y vecinas pueden participar de esta iniciativa cuyos objetivos son fomentar el reciclaje de envases ligeros, mejorar el proceso de recogida de estos residuos en todas sus fases (transporte, clasificación y recuperación) e impulsar el consumo responsable. En Valencia, la campaña para dar a conocer el proyecto europeo se ha bautizado con el nombre de Supermarcelina, el nombre de la heroína que invita a pequeños y mayores a “completar el círculo”. En solo cuatro semanas, un total de 450 hogares se registraron en la iniciativa, lo que supone una participación de más 1.200 personas. Para César Aliaga, responsable del Grupo Tecnológico de Sostenibilidad de ITENE y coordinador del proyecto, “más allá de las soluciones innovadoras que estamos desarrollando y probando a lo largo de estos cuatro años, una componente clave de PlastiCircle es la participación ciudadana y la concienciación sobre los residuos plásticos para darles una nueva vida útil”. ¿En qué consiste ‘Supermarcelina’? Los ciudadanos pueden registrarse a través de la web –www.supermarcelina.com– o personalmente en los puntos de información o en la Asociación de Vecinos y Vecinas de Sant Marcel·lí. What does ‘Supermarcelina’ consist of? Citizens can register on the website –www.supermarcelina.com–, or in person at information points or through the Sant Marcel·lí Residents Association. Having completed the registration form, they receive an NFC card in the form of a card or keyring, which enables them to identify themselves at containers, and a number of refuse bags with the PlastiCircle logo. Participants then recycle their plastic household waste in these bags, including tinned food cans, tetra-brik containers, polystyrene trays and boxes, dairy product containers, bottles, cleaning product containers, etc. It should be emphasised that waste such as toys, aerosol sprays, rubber gloves and fruit boxes should not be deposited in these bags. Once full, bags can be taken to one of the 25 intelligent containers deployed by PlastiCircle throughout the neighbourhood. These containers are, in fact, conventional yellow containers which have been fitted with a smart device on the side to enable interaction with users. Teniendo en cuenta que en la actualidad se producen más de 25,8 millones de toneladas de plástico al año en los Estados miembro de la Unión Europea y que solo se recicla un 29,7%, el foco de este proyecto financiado por el programa Horizonte2020 de la UE es el plástico, en concreto, los residuos de envases de plástico. PlastiCircle quiere convertir estos residuos en productos útiles para la sociedad. PLASTICIRCLE OR HOW TO CLOSE THE LIGHT PLASTIC PACKAGING LOOP Valencia (Spain), Utrecht (Netherlands) and Alba Iulia (Romania) have been selected as pilot cities for the deployment of a number of waste collection, transport, sorting and recovery innovations that will facilitate progress towards a circular economy. Bearing in mind that 25.8 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year in the European Union and that only 29.7% of this is recycled, this project, funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Programme, focuses on plastic and more specifically on plastic packaging waste.
