Y con el objetivo de: aumentar la actividad transnacional de clusters y redes innovadoras de los sectores clave del crecimiento MED. La sostenibilidad a lo largo del ciclo de vida de la producción de alimentos y bebidas supone uno de los grandes retos que la industria alimentaria está afrontando en los últimos tiempos. Lograr este modelo de producción sostenible, es uno de los objetivos que el Proyecto PEFMED, la iniciativa de eco innovación en el área mediterránea diseñada por la Comisión Europea para la medición del impacto medioambiental en el proceso productivo industrial. La neutralización de todos los sistemas de certificación medioambiental existentes en la UE con un solo Producto de impacto ambiental (PEF), cambiará las normas del mercado interior, las estrategias para los consumidores y la forma de introducir innovaciones medioambientales en la cadena de suministro industrial. PEFMED tiene como objetivo probar la herramienta PEF en 9 grupos de productos agroalimentarios en el área Mediterránea con el objetivo final de: 1. Fomentar actuaciones sistemáticas de ecoinnovación para proteger el sector agroalimentario (Galvanizando también los objetivos RIS3 relacionados con la innovación en la producción industrial agroalimentaria). 2. Aumentar el valor de mercado de las producciones compatibles con el PEF, combinando las normas PEF con aspectos socioeconómicos endógenos. PEFMED se inserta dentro del marco del Programa de Cooperación Transnacional Interreg MED, como iniciativa de eco innovación industrial en el área mediterránea, en el que participan siete socios europeos de España, Eslovenia, Francia, Grecia, Italia y Portugal. La oportunidad de la cooperación transnacional es una de las mayores apuestas de PEFMED, ya que permite una visión conjunta de la industria a nivel europeo y la identificación de qué puntos son clave para mejorar la competitividad de la industria en el área Mediterránea a través de la innovación. The objective is to increase the transnational activity of innovative clusters and networks in key sectors of the Med area. Sustainability throughout the production lifecycle of food and beverages is amongst the greatest challenges faced by the food industry in recent times. Achieving this production model is one of the objectives of the PEFMED project, the eco-innovation initiative in the Mediterranean area designed by the European Commission for the measurement of environmental impact in industrial production processes. The harmonisation of all EU environmental certification systems through a single Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) will change the rules of the internal market, consumer strategies and the way in which environmental innovations are incorporated into the industrial supply chain. PEFMED aims to test the PEF on nine agro-food product groups within the Mediterranean area, with the ultimate objective of: 1. Fostering systematic eco-innovation initiatives to protect the agro-food sector (also galvanising RIS3 goals related to innovation in industrial agro-food production). 2. Increasing the market value of PEF-compatible production processes, combining PEF rules with intrinsic socioeconomic aspects. PEFMED forms part of the Interreg MED Transnational Cooperation Programme as an industrial eco-innovation initiative in the Mediterranean area. The project consortium is made up of seven European partners from Spain, Slovenia, France, Greece, Italy and Portugal. The opportunity for transnational cooperation is amongst the most significant aspects of PEFMED, because it affords the possibility of a joint vision of the industry in Europe and the identification of key points in order to enhance the competitiveness of the industry in the Mediterranean area through innovation. Apart from the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB), other project partners include project coordinator, the PROYECTO PEFMED SOBRE SOSTENIBILIDAD DE LA INDUSTRIA ALIMENTARIA POR MEDIO DE LA METODOLOGÍA PEF La metodología seguida por el proyecto PEFMED está basada en la aplicación del PEF (Product Environmental Footprint), una herramienta de cálculo de impacto medioambiental (cambio climático, reducción de la capa de ozono, agotamiento de recursos naturales, uso del suelo, eco toxicidad), diseñada por la Comisión Europea que tiene en cuenta variables como indicadores territoriales y socio-económicos. El proyecto financiado por el programa Interreg MED Programa de Cooperación Transnacional cuenta con un presupuesto de 2,4 M€. PEFMED PROJECT ON FOOD INDUSTRY SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH IMPLEMENTATION OF PEF METHODOLOGY The methodology followed in the PEFMED project is based on the implementation of PEF (Product Environmental Footprint), a tool for the calculation of environmental impact (climate change, ozone layer reduction, depletion of natural resources, land use, eco-toxicity). This tool was designed by the European Commission and takes account of variables such as territorial and socioeconomic indicators. The project, funded by the Interreg MED Transnational Cooperation Programme, has a budget of 2.4 million euro.
