Aigües Of Lleida, first service of management of water that verifies his footprint of carbon in Spain with Aenor

Aqualia, through the UTE Aigües of Lleida, has turned into the first Spanish company that calculates and certifies with Aenor his footprint of carbon (the broadcasts of gases of effect invernadero -GEI-) in an integral service of management of water. This certification accredits the veracity of the calculation of the broadcasts of gases of effect invernadero of Aigües of Lleida. Félix Vine, general director of Aqualia, has received the corresponding certificate of hands of Avelino Brito, general director of Aenor.

After this new recognition, Aqualia has a ten of certificates of Aenor, in the fields of the Management of the Quality ISO 9001, Environingingmental Management ISO 14001, Energetic Management, Management of the R&D, hygiene of the Information and Footprint of Carbon.

The scope of the study, verified by Aenor according to the norm JOINS-IN ISO 14064-1:2012, it has been complete, since they have included so much the direct broadcasts like indirect along all the integral cycle of the water and in the whole of the installations that allow to manage the integral cycle of the water of the agreements of Aigües of Lleida and of the Mancomunidad of Pinyana (both responsibility of Aqualia). Besides, in the work has identified and quantified the quantity of carbon fixed (carbon retained in the biomass by more than 100 years), the broadcasts avoided and the pertinent real broadcasts of burns it of biomass.

The work of calculation, that has realizar with a methodology developed by the technicians of Aqualia and verified by Aenor, launches a total figure of 3.045,31 tonnes of CO₂ freed to the atmosphere. It fits to stand out that 90% of the total broadcasts of GEI come from of the debugger, because of the physical processes-chemical that involves the treatment of the waste water. Likewise, the study has revealed that the remarkable environingingmental management of the EDAR allows that the broadcasts motivated by the electrical consumption have remained compensated by the broadcasts avoided.

The object of the verification realizar by Aenor is to ensure, of independent form, that the included information in the statement effected by the organisation is complete, this is: exact, coherent, transparent and without remarkable discrepancies. The team of work has been integrated by the Steering and the Dpto. Technician of Aigües of Lleida, with the support of the Technical Steering and of Management of Services of Aqualia.

The advantages of the certification of the Footprint of Carbon can resumir in three, of general form: it allows to know and control the broadcasts of the organisations and his products; improve his competitiveness and increase the transparency in front of third.

In the case of an organisation, incidentally, the certification of the footprint of carbon improves the credibility in the report to third (indexes of national and international sustainability, Carbon Disclosure Project, etc.) and allows to manage the risks of broadcasts.

This initiative supposes a step more in the strategy of management echo-efficient of the company, since it allows to identify new environingingmental improvements and like this reduce so many broadcasts like energetic consumption. The initiative to calculate and verify the broadcasts GEI will be implanted in more places in which Aqualia loans service.
