on June 16, 2011
The municipality became so consuming an average of 26745 m3 per day in 2009 to consume 23600 m3 per day in the first half of this year 2011. According to Rodriguez, the main reason for this significant savings would be the "progressive renovation of pipes and the implementation of the Management Plan of the drinking water supply network, allowing the adjustment of the pressure in each area".
The Mayor recalled that the Council is acting in "critical infrastructure which provide a good service to citizens such as pipes, electrical network, network of reception of wastes, including pneumatic".
One of the improvements that have been carried out is in line with the drinking water supply network, for in recent years, the area of municipal infrastructure has invested about 3 million euros in the renovation of pipes that channel the water to the houses.
They have been replaced in this way in the Town Hall, 18 km. from pipes throughout the city, taking advantage of the large number of works of urban reform that already have been carried out for this.
Tontxu Rodríguez explained that pipes "reduced to the minimum of water leakage and breakage, thereby improving water supply to residents of the city".
In addition to the gradual improvement of the network, in recent years possesses City Hall tries to optimize its operations and performance through the launch in 2010 of the 'Plan of management of the network of water supply' in Barakaldo, and that "he is giving very good results," said Rodriguez.
