Interview with Francisco Berenguel. Managing Director of infrastructure and environment of the Técnicas Reunidas group
By way of introduction, what is the main activity of the management of infrastructure and environment of the Técnicas Reunidas group?
Could it tell us the fields in which its management provides greater added value?
Has what technological services recently incorporated his company which will differ from the other companies of the sector?
Could you tell us the last industrial projects which it has developed or is doing its management, both in Spain and abroad?
Taking into account the peculiarities of our client, a community of irrigators, have been developed and adopted processes that allow to reduce very significantly the final price of water for irrigation, consistent with the profitability of fruit and vegetable crops.
Also taken all the measures of protection and environmental integration that requires action in an area protected as the Cabo de Gata. This desalination plant will produce 21 Hm3/year and will ensure irrigation of 4,000 Has.
Another project representative of our activity is the plant of treatment and revaluation of batteries and fluorescent tubes that we are implementing in Barruelo de Santullán (Palencia). Applying a technology itself and patented by Técnicas Reunidas, you get separate all components of the batteries in common use, batteries button and fluorescent lamps and tubes.

What the main problems that faced currently companies of engineering in our country?
If it is true that demand is increasingly complex, today the market calls for comprehensive services, with the projects "working" and an increasingly funded, what puts the engineering behind large corporations to companiesIn addition to having the financial capacity, may include engineering services "within the package", is also true that the lack of r & d projects has been leaving engineering - lacking own processes — in this secondary role; Engineering "buys" and "gives" have been constant in this period claims.
And while this may seem a problem of the engineering sector, the reality is that affects the whole of the industrial sector, if the sector is not strengthened, unlikely we will be able to compete abroad, will hardly take advantage of opportunities that openfor example, with the enlargement of the European Union, to countries that have major deficiencies, but also great capabilities. If we are not able to transfer technology, we will lose the opportunities for new markets.
Engineering sector should make an effort to regain the lost lead, positioning itself in those areas; part development of r & d policies to give technical response to the demands of the market and the other, looking for the necessary alliances, both technical and financial, to become a competitive alternative.
Finally, is how it looks to the future of your company in particular and of the industrial engineering sector in general?
Mindful of the difficulties, we see the future with moderate optimism, that we are making every effort to keep our firm steady.
There is widespread worry that only will be exceeded if enhance research, development and innovation policies in the sector and put in the traditional value "know-how" of the Spanish engineering, boosting its dynamic role.
