Valencian industries reduce discharges of sludge by 89 %

The network of sewage treatment plants of the region of Valencia has gone from treated 55,000 tons of sludge with heavy metals in 2005 to 5,900 tonnes, representing 89 per cent less, according to data provided by the regional government. The director general of the water, José Maria Benlliurem said that "companies of the Comunitat Valenciana, thanks to the incorporation of environmental variations to their production processes, have drastically reduced their discharges by its environmental awareness".
In the last 6 years, Valencian companies have invested more than 123 million euros, certified by the Ministry of the environment, to avoid or reduce the pollution load that is poured to the surface, groundwater and marine waters.The Government certifies these investments so that businesses can deduct them fiscally, thus rewarding the good environmental performance of the same.
