86 Percent of the Spanish claims that you recycle in your home
86 Percent of the Spanish claims separate home some kind of residue, according to reveals the Studio Monitor Ecoembes 2007 on habits and attitudes to recycling and separation of waste in the home. This survey is produced annually by Millward Brown to Ecoembes, society non-profit that manages the integrated system of management (GIS) of selective collection of light packaging (packaging of plastic, cans and brik), and containers of paper and paperboardfor further treatment and recycling.
The result of the current study sheds 13 points from last year's growth, i.e., the growth of the habit of separating waste in Spanish households has gone from 73 per cent in 2006, to 86 per cent in 2007.
The study also reveals that it has increased the recognition of the light packaging (plastic containers, cans and briks) and papel-cartón as recyclable waste. This evolution has resulted in an increase in the habit of separate containers of paper and paperboard and, above all, light packaging. 79 Percent of Spanish households indicates separate containers for the blue container (cardboard and paper packaging) and the yellow container (plastic containers, cans and briks), representing an increase of 19 and 29 points respectively.
The reason for this increase in the habits of separation and recycling throughout the Spanish is due, among other reasons, to the concerns of the citizens in the fight against climate change. The study indicates that 51 percent of those surveyed points to this fact as of greater influence, followed by those who believe that the increase is due to that there had been more awareness campaigns and advertising on separation and recyclinga 45 per cent. Other grounds also include the action launched by the town councils (35 percent), the optimization of the services of collection and recycling (28 percent), and the largest number of containers near the homes (25 percent).
The Spanish, aware of the civic responsibility
The study of Ecoembes shows other information of interest: raises of 24 percent to 60 percent the perception that citizens themselves have the primary responsibility in the separation of packaging, occupying second place on the scale of responsibility, after the city councils that are seen by 84 per cent of the citizens as the primary responsibility for the separation of light packaging. The central Government is appointed by 59 per cent of surveyed citizens.
