The mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, visited yesterday 12 September the Terminal of Containers of Barcelona (TCB). TCB Finds immersed in a process of improvement of his installations. Around the middle of 2013 it foresees they finish the current works of extension, in 24 hectares, of his esplanade, with which the total surface of the terminal will become of 81 hectares. The extension of the terminal does not comport only an increase of the surface, the adjudicators of the works will build equally the accesses to the terminal that will have two distinct locations, situated to opposite extremes of the same and devoted one for the entrance and another for the exit of containers. For the entrance will have of a centre of attention of incidences and of 6 automatic doors (expandable to 8 in a future) that will be instrumented with means OCR (Optical Character Register) and of prevention and detection of the illicit traffic of nuclear and radioactive materials in the frame of the project Megaports. For the exit, will have of 3 doors instrumented of the same way that the ones of entrance. Besides it will build a new transformative station that will supply the necessary electrical power to face up to the new capacities and future demands, that increase in 0,9 million TEU, arriving to the 2,3 million TEU of maximum capacity.
Regarding the rail terminal, after finalising at the beginning of this year the adaptation of two of his roads to European width, at present have of six entirely operative roads. The length of the same will happen of 450 to 750 once finished metres the project and, thus, has expanded also to 750 metres the lanes of the crane of manipulation of containers (Rail Mounted Gantry, RMG) as well as the possibility of the terminal, to work with 3 cranes RMG simultaneously.
