Ikerlan-IK4 takes the European lead in the development of reliable embedded systems

ikerlan-ik4 strengthens its strategic position at the European level in the development of reliable embedded systems following the signing of a cooperation agreement with the University of Vienna, which is characterized as European benchmark in such systems. The objectives contained in this agreement are the advance in technology that have a wide impact on the development of innovative products in our daily lives, the exchange of researchers and the impulse to doctoral dissertations to deepen in this area. The Convention represents strong backing to the bet of Ikerlan-IK4 to boost the necessary technologies for the development of embedded systems. These devices are used on a daily basis by all citizens in daily actions as use an elevator, get on the subway, telephone, medical analysis, start the car, etc., although they often go unnoticed during these simple operations. An embedded system is a system of computer hardware and software specifically designed and optimized to efficiently solve a specific problem.

This strategy and research career has been as a result, in addition to the signing of the Convention with a benchmark University at European level, the involvement of the Centre in the Board policy of the Association European Industrial Artemisia is also Member Mondragon Corporation. Artemisia manages the biggest platform for technological research of embedded systems, in order to improve the competitiveness of European companies.

Prototype system embedded for application in the transport sector.

This reference position is also based on the first entity of the State to initiate a process which is currently well under way, to obtain the certification of its own methodology of reliability of embedded systems. This decision emanates from the security that industry significantly increase the demand for this technology, in order to develop new innovative products which must be guaranteed, and even certify the safety of the product in different sectorsespecially in transport, health, industrial control and energy.

Currently, Ikerlan-IK4 is working with several companies in the sectors of transport and equipment in the development of products that incorporate reliable embedded technologies with the highest levels of reliability (up to SIL4). Also participates in projects of the administrations of the State, (Profit: Embecon), Basque (Etortek: Teretrans), Diputación Foral de Gipuzkoa (reliable embedded systems) and Europe (Tecom and Teresa). In these projects he works on the research of the new technological challenges of reliable embedded systems in the aspects of methodology, architecture, communications, and validation for reliability.
