Sappi Celebrates the renewal of the PM 2 of Alfeld Mill with an investment of 60 million euros
With this remodeling, Sappi now has probably the machine of paper bigger, innovative and versatile of the sector. It treats of an integrated machine, provista of the last technologies, that produces special papers estucados by a face. In the process of renewal, Sappi had to use one of the greater cranes of Europe to plant a cylinder of paper satinado of 135 tonnes and 6,4 metres of diameter. In addition to the new cylinder of paper satinado, Sappi installed a box of new entrance with system of dilution and section of pre-dried in the same level.

“Have finished the project in an extremely short term”, says Stefan Karrer, director of factory of Sappi Alfeld GmbH. “Already we have received comments very positive of the customers by the big quality of the paper, and had many win to show the results to a wider audience in the inauguration.”
The act was loaded of interesting activities, beginning by a reception to midday, followed of a round table that had the presence of Cherno Jobatey, known presenter of the German television, the one who commissioned to moderate a debate on the future tendencies of the manufacture of paper. After several briefings and interactive, the assistants had the opportunity see the machine PM 2 in action. The act concluded with a dinner in which the presents could do contacts and exchange impressesions.

Prepared for the future
The machine renewed produces papers with a very soft surface, greater dimensional and lower stability penetration of the pigments, what improves the general quality of the supports and expands the possibilities of manipulated. The machine with cylinder of paper satinado will produce 135.000 annual tonnes of paper estucado by a face, to a speed of 1.200 metres by minute, or 72 km by hour. “With the remodeling of the PM 2, the factory of Alfeld Mill turns into a leading centre in the production of cardboards and special papers”, adds Stefan Karrer.
“Some of the first papers that have manufactured in the new machine are Fusion, Parade Prime, Algro Finess and Algro Sol”, adds Rosemarie Asquino, director of marketing and sales of the division of special papers of Sappi Fine Paper Europe.
“Have achieved some results of excellent impressesion, a big dimensional stability and some very smooth papers, what will help to the customers to reach an exceptional quality. Besides, the greater capacity of production of the machine guarantees them the availability of paper in the future.”
Sappi Alfeld Will continue developing new products for the segments of the paper antiadherente, the flexible containers and the labels thanks to the new provision and capacity that contributes the machine PM 2 remodelled.
