CETEMMSA Technology Center specialized in intelligent materials carried out two projects - SmartCover and TAFF - so cars will reduce its production costs and more efficient and respectful with the environment. CETEMMSA carries out these projects in cooperation with CTAG, the technological center of the automotive industry in Galicia.
The SmartCover project aims to develop a textile door car button, which integrates all the functionality into a single system. With this objective CETEMMSA is investigating a fabric with sensors which will reduce the number of pieces that are now assembled. In addition to reducing the number of pieces, this intelligent fabric will eliminate the problems of the current mechanical controls: wear, scratches, and vibrations.

In the final phase of the project, scheduled for late 2011, economic, legislative and environmental study will be conducted to assess the improvements provided by the prototype in these three parameters. This project also features Aimplas (technological Institute of plastics).

On the other hand, obtained photovoltaic cells, flexible and cost-effective to integrate them into the plate of the vehicle is the objective of the TAFF project. The research of CETEMMSA will allow to have cars to obtain sunlight to energy needed to power part of the battery and the electric needs of internal components of a means of transport.

The project, which will be completed in 2013, belongs to a field of research strategic because it will allow to obtain more efficient vehicles and, in the not distant future, totally self-sufficient cars. This project also features AIN (Navarre Industry Association).
