Wisebed, the first pan-European sensor network open to the scientific community
July 27, 2011
More than a thousand sensors currently integrate European laboratory Wisebed, a project in which participated the Group Algoritmia, bioinformatics, complexity and formal methods (Albcom) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). The team has developed the algorithms needed to make the network a platform for coordinated and efficient computational calculation.
"With Wisebed the scientific community will have a real testing laboratory in which his experiments without physically moving and avoiding investment in the purchase of the hardware", says Maria j. Blesa, researcher from the UPC Albcom group.
The sensors are a technology increasingly present in our environment and very useful for scientific advancement. They allow the obtaining and the monitoring of environmental data such as e.g. the humidity, light, temperature, vibration, movement, pollution or sound. Even though they have limitations, especially memory, calculation and energy storage, they offer advantages such as a reduced measure, the lightness and cheap.
