From the Editor Conditions and details users seek in clothes and footwear Our national survey among staff members in various sectors, including industries, transportation, hostelry, healthcare, and business, shows that there is wide agreement, even though they work in such different areas. We will comment on workwear and footwear in general, leaving out protective clothes and equipment with specific protection levels. Those surveyed agreed that both shirts and trousers must have a poc- ket for mobile phones. It is, of course, something many manufacturers take into account though sadly, it is not all of them who think of this detail. Protective footwear should be light, and look like casual or spor ts footwear, so that people do not need to change shoes twice a day, or even more frequently. Lighter shoes also mean reduced stress and ti- redness at the end of the day. Large pockets with a flap or closure system are highly recommended, do you do not need to carry a purse or ID holder. In general, all sectors agree on the importance of pockets as very ne- cessary. This is why trousers, vests, shirts and parkas with many pockets are successfully sold. In the kitchen, uniforms should always have mesh fabrics on the sides and caps, for this improves comfort. Trousers turned into Bermuda shorts make it possible for people to wear the same clothes at work and outside of their workplace. Those in the transportation sector claim they’re a great idea! Uniforms and irons are long-time enemies. The best choice is to have them made of polyester-cotton combinations, technical fabrics that re- quire no ironing, or 100% cotton that’s easy to iron. All other fabrics will make uniforms look less than great, affecting the company’s image. Trousers and jackets need to fit perfectly well, so adjustable straps, rib fabric, etc. will always make people look great when wearing them. Snap buttons are the favourites for Denim clothes and kitchen jackets and tops. Parkas with detachable sleeves are a sure choice, with many fans, and a great way to feel warm without feeling uncomfortable. Coveralls need to be designed with freedom of movement in mind, for otherwise people will need to wear a larger size than their own. High-visibility clothes will usually be outerwear so they’ll get dirty and require frequent washing. So they need to be resistant against industrial or home washing, at a convenient temperature to remove stains. Stain- repellant finishes are a good solution, as we usually think of public works employees as wearing yellow or orange overalls with gray stains, invalidating the high-vis properties of workwear. Healthcare staff will usually choose clogs, as will many shop attendants. This means that design should be modern and trendy, and clogs should fit perfectly well. Our survey shows that, in the workplace, comfort and good looks are very important to people.
