37 Galworker The company’s factory in Vietnam, contributing to the economy and welfare of local families Since this company located in Alicante opened its factor y in the province of Quang Nam in Vietnam 15 months ago, it has been actively collaborating with the local community. Some 20 million Vietnamese Doang are reinvested every month to help families still suffering the consequences of the war. In addition, Galworker invests in training program- mes for the disabled here, and also gives them jobs in the factory, suitable to those who have various impairments. How does Galworker do this? On one hand, the whole team working in the factory contributes with 15 minutes a day, doing unpaid work, an initiative known as “Ket Doan Time for the Com- munity”,TKDC in Spanish.This builds a fund to which voluntary contributions on the part of clients and suppliers are added. On an average, the equivalent to three workers’ salaries are thus given to re- lief work.Though 20 million Doang a month are roughly equal to some U$S 1,000, it is a significant sum, for the cost of life inVietnam is low.“It is our contribution, from all of us here at Galworker, to a com- munity that takes part in our project and contributes to our growth”, states Antonio Gálvez, Galworker’s CEO. and investment has also gone to fire prevention. Following two, almost consecutive, renovation and expansion projects, the company is planning a fourth stage, which will result in four pro- duction lines. The factory in Quang Nam extends over 10,000 square meters, and gives jobs to 210 people, while production volumes total 500,000 units a year. Management and direction are led by a highly qualified tech- nician, a Spanish partner. The investment made by Galworker in this factory is very high for it is equip- ped with the latest technology. In addi- tion, hygiene and safety are prioritized, Galworker owns another factory in China, with 150 employees, produ- cing 750,000 units a year. Charity Companies
