From the publisher Opportunities are in Latin America Sicur Latin America’s timing was excellent, though it should have been planned for an earlier date, given the consumption crisis in Spain. Spanish companies participating at this trade fair need no sales ar- guments for they already know their presence in Santiago de Chile was essential, as the event itself and the city are a platform projec- ting onto all neighbouring countries. IFEMA AND FISA, leading planners, promote Sicur Latin America as a connecting bridge joining Europe and Chile. It is a meeting point where both businesses and professionals create new business and expansion opportunities. In fact, the situation of Spanish companies in this industry sector has forced them to set in place austerity policies that have greatly affected their participation. These are the companies we address. For they need to make good use of the synergies created between Spain and Chile, through this trade show, to connect those orga- nizations involved and thus obtain all the necessary information on Latin American markets. Chilean economy is competitive, open to foreign trade, and the re- ceptor of major foreign investments. Proof of this is the bilateral agreement to avoid double taxing, valid since 2004, and all other free-trade agreements with 56 countries and the agreement signed by the European Union and Chile in 2003.According to Economist Intelligence Unit (2010), Chile is the best country in the region for business with foreign countries. With Sicur Latin America Spain creates connections and opens doors to companies planning to open markets in Latin America in the near future.
