Breath4Life©, creado para salvar vidas Pese a cubrir una necesidad prevalente, el reanimador Breath4Life® es un instrumen- RCPB oropharyngeal rescuer, the difference between life and death The cardio-respiratory arrest, which is the worldwide leading cause of death, entails a medical emergency that occurs many times around us and for which we have no specif- ic -and safe- helpful means. We are familiar with the image of defibrillators, intended to restore the electrical response of the heart through controlled discharges. These devices, also called heart rescue columns are usually placed in public spaces to help in case of emergency. However, they can only do a partial work for someone who has suffered infarction, if he has fallen into respiratory arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation When spontaneous breathing is interrupted, the patient needs cardio-pulmonary resusci- tation, which restores breathing and thereby the cellular oxygenation and mainly the oxygen delivery to the brain. After several minutes without oxygen, the brain suffers irreversible damage or severe and perma- nent consequences if death does not occur. Early action is critical to save lives. Traditionally, the cardiopulmonary resusci- tation maneuver has been performed using what is known as mouth-to-mouth, an oper- ation that involves many risks both to the rescuer and the rescued people. Reanimación RCPB, company from Barcelona, has designed Breath4Life®, a cardiopulmonary resuscitation device, to save a life (infarcted person in arrest) while protecting other (person providing first aid). Breath4Life©, conceived to save lives Despite covering a prevalent need, the Breath4Life® rescuer is a new and unique instrument in the world, more practical, quicker and easy to use in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The oropharyngeal breather basically con- sists of a cannula tube with facial adapters on both edges and aseptic valves, allowing mouth-to-mouth without direct contact. This avoids the person who reanimates to be exposed to possible infection. The patients’ risk of drowning and suffering self-injuries are also minimized, while the time and effi- ciency of the maneuver is sped up. Breath4Life®, which features an antibacter- ial filter, and keeps in place by itself during the maneuver, offers more than 20 benefits regarding other resuscitation devices, being the only one that is a single instrument. In addition, it protects from contagious dis- eases such as AIDS, hepatitis, cholera, tuber- culosis, herpes, malaria, paludism, meningi- tis, etc.
