YKK Fastening Products Group stakes on sustainability, with the bluesign® system As a leading company in a global marketplace YKK enjoys a highly recognized name and reputation as a name identifying zippers and other clo- sure solutions. However, there is a side to this company which is not known as widely: social responsibility. The company’s contributions to sustainabi- lity have long been the essence of principles guiding YKK. In 1994, YKK created the Environmental Guidelines to effectively rule and apply to all of YKK Group’s environ- mental policies and activities around the world. The goal of this written text is to ensu- re the prosperity and good health of human societies harmonizing with their natural set- tings. There are other initiatives, like the Yos- hida School Foundation or YKK Fastening Green Procurement, also guiding the corpo- rate policies of this company. The company’s manufacturing facilities operate under ISO 14001 and its main product lines comply with the Oeko-Tex standards. This means that by joining the bluesign® system in an ongoing commitment to certify closure solu- tions as they are developed, can only be regarded as the natural, next step. “Corporate social responsibility is a hot topic in the textile industry and it is normal that the market expects YKK to react to the incre- asing importance of bluesign technologies' reputation within it,” says Johnny de Boer, marketing manager at YKK in Europe. “Alt- hough most people will already be aware of YKK's strong historical emphasis on sustai- nability, we are very proud and happy to become a Bluesign system partner. YKK is continuing to do what it is good at and the Bluesign system will offer assurance to our customers and end users of our approach towards sustainability.” "We are very delighted to work together with YKK,” said Peter Waeber, CEO of Bluesign Technologies. “YKK's effort toward higher EHS security and transparency is an impor- tant step for the entire industry.” By using the latest, most advanced techno- logies, YKK continues to promote environ- mental policies in every activity, thus con- tributing to reduce carbon emissions in favour of recycling and prioritizing har- mony with Nature to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. During the ISPO show held in Munich, YKK will be presenting its recently develo- ped closure systems: Zippers, Buttons, Snap buttons, plastic and textile.
