Desma House Fair 2012 beats all records 96 The Desma House Fair 2012 played host to over 500 delegates in Achim (Germany) on September 17 & 18 2012. Why have they all come, from all corners of the Earth, for this event? “It’s the place to be!” states Manfred Brandes of Outback, chatting over a coffee with Dirk Wegerhoff of Bergmann, Germany. Wegerhoff’s company’s Desma machines have been running for nearly 10 years now. His impression of the Fair? “Perfect!” Bernard Schwilden of TEC Safety sees attendance at the Fair as vital, “To be in contact... and to see all the advances in technology.” The Frenchman is considering moving some production back to France and knows that success will depend on use of most modern facilities. Edgar Groh of Steitz Secura is a familiar face at Desma – he loves the chance to come ‘up North’ and visit old friends. “We’ve been with Desma for over 40 years!” he proudly states. Much further has been the journey of Fassil Tadesse Hailu from the Tikur Abbay Shoe Share Company in Ethiopia. Hailu, who completed his MBA in the United Kingdom, has come to Europe especially for the Fair; “I must learn more about Desma machinery!” Mr Katsuba of Otiko Byelorus’ contacts with Desma go way, way back to the 1970s. Why is he here? “Coming here is self-understood, the Desma House Fair is a must. It’s good to hear other opinions. And to see what the new trends are!” Paul Cloros of Mongrel Boots, Victor Footwear in Australia,, is also visiting Desma in Achim. He is delighted with the friendliness, the openness and the planning perfection. He has three machines producing in the land downunder. Why does he decide for Desma? The answer is Australian, short and to the point: “They are reliable!” And last but certainly not least, John Wilson of New Balance is taking the time to attend one of the specialist presentations. New Balance produces 700,000 pairs per year on their two Desmas in Boston, USA. What does Desma mean to him? “Excellence. Excellent team, a high degree of engineering, combined with great flexibility. They help us get the product right.” Desma really did put its best foot forward with the technical highlights at the House Fair 2012. Shown were ready-for-market processes for standard and specialist applications, including rubber direct-soling with light PU midsole, direct soling with bi-density rubber soles, production of moulded part soles with integrated orthopedic gel-cushioning and PU boot production with and without placed rubber soles, plus upper design with flowing colours and laserwork for logo and inscription The largest stir was caused by the exciting new field of IMC – in mould coating. Bjorn Dormann, Head of Desma’s Technikum is enthusiastic about the design possibilities offered by this process. “We have improved haptic and optic. What is really great is that using a PU coating, applied automatically, we can produce a mono-sole shoe with two colours. This gives totally new possibilities for sports and casual shoes!”
